This is 100% truth. White people in this country think having a baby or three sets them back, it's not true. It pushes you forward.

I went through with the plan, now the man sendin' me grams,
My coke organization still infestin' the land,
No joke, built my Mama an estate in the Bahamas,
Crops of marijuana protected by Big Timers,
Hand, full of ice, it's gangsta's paradise,
Expensive merchandise, I had to sacrifice for the glamourous life,
Don P. for breakfast, Benz, stretches, and Lexus,
Distribution of coke from Louisiana to Texas,
Some fabricated, but fascinated by the way that I made it,
Now my name is implicated with the greatest
Wearin' the latest, leather fatigues and B.B.H.,
Brand new Mercedes, parked in front of my new estate,
Twelve o' clock we gave him, caviar, is what we ate,
Party with killas, paraphrenalia full of projects,
Dope snorters or prospects, the rob your shop necks,
But I gets pissed and send hits, don't frick with my shite
Wig split, the heel, whoever he roll with,
Admit it, you did it, tongue too tied? Well say somethin'
Nine's bustin', bringin' your platoon to destruction,
Continue to hustlin', givin' up nothin' where the dope at?
Crackers can get the Bauds at, because I'm pro Black,
Think I'm a foreigner, he wasn't holdin' up his side of his deal,
Alien gotta be killed, sent to the coroner,
I'm sure he would have gone before the judge
With somethin' concrete, to send me, 'cause
He was holdin' a grudge, frickin' over a thug,
Told my bitch I want him dead,
Bring me his head, fill him with lead,
Heard what I said? Don't betray me,
I'll put you on the streets and make you weak,
With carrots and stones up on fingers and your teeth,
And built you a home next to the beach,
And luxury cars we creep
Here's the nine, I don't have time, make it discreet

Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty. I hated his music when I was younger but appreciate that song now that I’m in my 50s.

Literally anything Seger these days.

Been listening to segar and Jackson Browne a lot lately. Like a rock was just a Chevy song till I sat down and listened to all of it. The famous final scene can be interpreted in a lot of ways, one being the dying. Jackson Browne was an incredible song writer even at a young age. These Days is a huge standout for me, especially with greg alman singing it. When he says “don’t confront me with my failures” and you realize a 16 year old Browne wrote that, it’s just incredible that a young man knew that wisdom. And alman had lived all those experiences and took him forever to realize that same thing.

This one hit me hard about 10 years ago.

From “Time” by Pink Floyd

And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines

Whitney Houston’s “I wanna Dance with Somebody” isn’t about dancing.

Since I am coming up to BR today...

Steve walks warily down the street
With the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go.

Nights Moves by Bob Seger. My mom used to listen to it when we were kids. I now know what it was about and kinda disgusted that my mom jammed to with us in the car

The great thing about Seger songs is they can have multiple meanings. The obviously it is about a young man hooking with a girl and using each other and learning. But also its about a older guy reflecting back on his youth.

He said, "I'll love you till I die"
She told him, "You'll forget in time"
….
I went to see him just today
Oh, but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years
