Property Taxes!
No one ever really "owns" a home... if you don't pay the local government they will take away what you have already paid for.
Homestead exemption was first introduced in 1934 and it has gone from $20,000 to $50,000 to $75,000. You can barely find a decent 1500 sq ft home for under $150,000 these days. I think it's time for another upgrade.

Sometimes I feel like banks are ripping people off. What about "transaction fees"?
For all the crap Wells fargo gets they basically give me 60 bucks a month. Every time you use your debit card they give you a dollar. i use mine alot and i get about 60 bucks a month deposited into my account. thats like an extra 700 a year. cant complain about that.

Furniture far and away. I read somewhere that it's only behind jewelry for biggest markup.

Real Estate Agent fees. 6% no matter what the sales price.
This.. I don't mind paying people for their service but its the same paperwork for a 100k home as it is for a 500k

Sometimes property taxes are good for forcing trashy people out of the area.

attorneys.
Truth. I love how you have to pay them to do research on the case by the hour. I mean, isn't that their job to do at it's core? Also really love their charge for copies they make regarding case...nickle and dime the shite outta you.

How so, considering the usage and longevity of furniture?

that was actually a dig at Sabi but I agree, after a lengthy court battle a few years ago I had to go back to court over fees that an attorney tried to foist on me with no itemization, there were hours and hours billed for clerical things like making copies, FedExing items, etc., that were billed at the attorney's hourly rate, overt gouging that, in that state would have brought criminal charges for just about any other type of business

Mattresses.
How is it that every block there's a different little shitty mattress store and how can they sustain with so much competition? Because the mark up on those things is ridiculous. They try and convince you to change them every 8 years too, which is ridiculous

Exactly. I'll go over there and ship myself and make copies they need at my house over paying them $250/hr to do the same. It's such BS. The research fees is what really irks me though. What expertise do they have that you are actually paying for? That's like me paying my plumber to learn how to fix my toilet on top of paying to fix my toilet afterwards.
Every time you call or email them with a question...you get billed. Its ridiculous. I even got billed once for calling just to introduce myself and get to know the lawyer taking over a case. What a joke

Depends on the equipment. Safety gear gets treated better when you pay for it yourself. I'd bet that harness you had to buy lasted 3 times as long as it would if your employer bought it for you.
It's insane the amount of shite that I buy for my guys that gets left behind or misused, but they treat the shite that I make them buy like its priceless.

I don't know for sure, but I think there is a huge markup on furniture.
