College books
I would love to know how much money is made from these books. For a text book to cost $200-$300 is insane.. And then after a few semesters the book isn't worth much of nothing because they switch to a new textbook.

Having to money deducted from your paycheck to cover equipment required for your own job.
My gas company charges a transaction fee for paying a bill over the phone, which is somewhat understandable due to the fact that a representative processes which affects their call volume, and to steer us to paying online. Problem is, NOW we are charged a fee for paying online. Can't win.

And razors. I really don't know the cost to produce razors, but with the amount that is produced, I would think its cents on a dollar per razor.. Is this a wrong assumption? Either way, the cost when they reach the stores are insane.
This board has a ton of threads on DE shaving. I buy a 50 pack of razors for $13. I'm set for a year

Also, I read a while back that the drinks McDonalds sells you costs them about 3-6 cents but they charge $1.75+
The cups they purchase are more expensive than the beverage. All fast food and restaurants make a killing on soft drinks, hence free refills

I think they make 600%-700% on each drink they sell, but I would also add alcoholic beverages in restaurants. You go out to eat and drink 3 or 4 beers/mixed drinks.. And its going to cost you.

When was the last time you had your home A/C unit(s) recharged? It's well over a 100% markup.

Paying for water.
I have one of those water filters on my sink, but it depends on where you live. In some areas, I don't blame people for buying water, but when I was a kid.. I remember my grandpa saying "one day they are going to make us pay to drink water and to breath air".

Should be drinking that anyways.....the horrible value is just more incentive to have something healthier.

Diamond Engagement Rings.
Their "value" is artificially inflated and they provide no additional utility over say a piece of string tied on her finger.
Yet you are expected to drop thousands on one before an engagement during what time chances are you are the least financially secure you will ever be as an adult.
If you happen to get a girl who sees through the BS Diamond industry and doesn't want one you still get the good fortune of everyone else thinking you are a cheap piece of shite when you get her the non traditional ring that she actually wanted.
No win situation
