What are some pieces of advice or wise (or silly) sayings you remember from childhood?

What is a piece of advice or a wise (or silly) saying you remember from your childhood? I remember a bunch, but here are two that come to mind:
- Don't take any wooden nickels.
Not sure where I got that one. Maybe an old cartoon or a book I read when I was young, or something I heard an older person say.
- Rome wasn't built in a day.
My aunt used to say that when someone was in too much of a hurry. I always wondered how far back that saying went. Had that been passed down from mother to daughter since ancient or medieval times?
