Our elementary school playground was on the demolished site of the old high school. It was a couple of inches of dirt on top of the old concrete foundation. Of course we played tackle football on it.

We sometimes played a game called “police brutality” where the object was to inflict pain on a kid who was designated the suspect. The teacher monitoring recess kept things from getting too crazy. This was in the 1970s.

We had what must have been a 20’ tall swing set and we would see who could fly the furthest off the swing. Also had a 15’ slide that you could rocket down if the conditions were right. We’d see who could get the most distance off of the slide. Also played a lot of 4 square, football, basketball and red rover.

At my old elementary school we had this thing that was basically old light poles stuck into the ground, it had to be at least 12 feet high with one of those big offshore ropes tied to the top of it.

Football and kickball games broke out every now and then in middle school. My mom would raise all kinds of hell when I’d come home with grass stains on my uniform
Tetherball was a solid option too.

Played stretch and chicken.
Stretch, 2 guys 4 ft apart, both with feet together. Toss a knife and stick in in ground, opponent would have to move his closest foot to it. Keep playing until one person could not stretch far enough.
Chicken, well it’s the opposite of stretch. We were all friends and u got to know who could stick knife in ground where they were aiming! Yeah, several of us got stuck, nothing serious. Most would chicken out before that though.

What about that game where you stood face to face, and you each put your fists out, and took turns trying to bust the shite out of the top of your opponents fists with your knuckles and if he pull away and you missed, he tried the same.
I was king of that game. It would really hurt whe you were on the losing end of a good hit. We played the same game with slapping.
