Another thread got me thinking, there’s probably so many awesome jobs that people don’t know about.

A friend of a friend rides the Cumberland River all day asking to check a fisherman's catch. He's not checking licenses and is not a warden, just gathering research data. If they say no, he just goes on.

Red teaming

Physically break into offices or manufacturing sites, conduct cyber attacks, write malware. It’s fun

That's because the people that have them are smart enough to keep their mouths shut.

My job is global in scope and I get to work in really interesting aerospace, defense, biomedical, and space exploration projects. I have access to physicists, generals, military and rocket test ranges, night vision labs, all of NASA, drone technologies, robotics for undersea exploration, agriculture and AI applications. There's no "job description" this fits into and I sort of carved out a niche for myself where only a handful of people, even within my own organization, know what I do. Now that I'm retirement age, they are begging me not to fully retire and to stay on and guide training of someone and make the passing of the torch, so to speak, when I'm ready.

It's a hard decision to make about retiring. I hate the corporate bullshite, but otherwise, I love what I get exposed to and consulted on and that I have business relations all across the world, not just in the US.

Like I said, except for corporate bullshite, it's a cool job.

Maple syrup farmer.

There is more to it, but you basically ride around your property on a UTV gathering the tree sap and then take it all back and boil it until it gets to the color and grade you are looking for. Bottle and sell.

Cleaning gutters. No, it's not glamorous, but people can make a couple hundred bucks per job and do 4-5 jobs a day. Bring in $1k per day is doable. A great little gig for young dudes.

I had a friend in school whose brother was a spice dealer. He travelled around the world searching for spices and dealing in bulk trade. Always thought that was cool.

Also know a guy who is a maritime detective. He basically searches for old sunken ships that were carrying treasure and historical artifacts.

I have a former coworker who works for a global cruise line. She basically travels the world taking shore excursions, evaluating them and negotiating.

I did a little of this on a smaller scale and can't believe I was paid for it. She just travels, experiences, evaluates.

Hard to get in the clique but Ship pilots is good one. They make a really good living and mainly do nothing on a 7&7 schedule. It does carry a lot of responsibility and when shite goes wrong, it really goes wrong.

Back in the day one of my Dad's cousins had that job. I actually operated it when I was a kid. The old bridge not the that is there now. it was replaced in the late 70's early 80's.

I'm currently aiding in drilling a 31,000' high pressure high temp deepwater well. When I stop to think about it, it's amazing what we do. Technology next to this is The Large Hadron Collider and putting shite in space. So I think my job is pretty cool.

I recently became aware of a job I had no idea existed. There is at least one company that is used by mattress companies like Purple, etc to pick up mattresses that people get delivered but return or exchange before the trial period expires. The mattress companies can’t resell them as new and they don’t want to be bothered with getting in the used mattress game. Like Uber, you see a listing of pickups in a certain distance and you choose whether to pick the item up or not. You give the mattress a quick cleaning and then store it at home. People aren’t allowed to return damaged mattresses so the cleanup is usually a wipe down with some fabric cleaner and spraying some Lysol on it. The company helps you market the mattress and buyers come to you to purchase. A cut of the proceeds go to the company but you still get to keep a ridiculous amount of money considering how little effort you put in.
