If i go out to eat with the wife at a nice restaurant, 1-2 cocktails and then share a bottle of wine during the main course.

If we go to a casual restaurant, 2-3 beers/cocktails

Tailgating, beer all day then liquor during the game. Lots.

After football season, during the week after work, 1-2 glass's of white wine or 1-2 craft beers depending whats out.

Golfing, beer every other hole.

Going out to the bars with friends, liquor and lots of it..

When you don’t drink, you tend to find yourself not hanging out with heavy drinkers regardless of the situation.

I will say, if I’m at the occasional function and someone is pounding them back, I feel so glad not to be that guy anymore.

Ah yes, Ron Swanson. The character who Nick Offerman had to change his lifestyle after Parks & Rec so he could get roles that didn't include "middle-aged & overweight dad"

Question to those of you that drink at restaurants or when you're out at a party.

How many before you decide to Uber or take a cab home? I ask because I was visitng friends this weekend and one couple in particular got drunk every night (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and only Ubered home once.

I just won't do that anymore. I give the keys to my wife who either doesn't drink or just has one or I Uber home.

OI quit drinking several years ago. I was always a social drinker, so it wasn't a big deal.

I'm too old to deal with hangovers these days.

Alcohol, to varying degrees, has always been there. I have coped with it mightily, and it has often exacerbated the problem and fed depression. I have gotten into a hole twice in my life with, once at age 24 and once again at age 30. I maintained a full time job during that 24 yr old period but ran through my vacation days by Feb. In those times it was approx 3-6 months of a fifth a day or more. Started with bourbon in a glass in the morning and moved to gin or vodka out the bottle by lunch. Have done fifths of Dobra before 9am before. I would never drive anywhere or put anyone else in danger. If I knew I couldnt handle the sadness of that day I would go straight to the grocery store early in the morning and get either vodka or bourbon and go back home. I would just get fricked up alone in my own house. Anything to not feel. I have fifths of random things in the pantry right now and dont have the slightest urge to touch them. I love craft beer of all sorts and wine of all sorts and can have just one glass in a sitting or a few beers in a sitting and be fine now drinking socially. It correlates directly with depression where if I drink 2-3 days in a row, even just 2-3 beers at a time, then it creeps back in heavily so I monitor that and space my drinking out now. Im learning how to be in social settings now without having to drink at all and it’s tough but progress is there for sure. I have one Envie sitting in the fridge but wont touch it until at least Wednesday because I hit it fairly hard this weekend.

Sunday through Thursday, nothing.

Friday after work, as soon as I can get to happy hour through Saturday night, a lot.

The drink is pretty much just bourbon, unless it's a beer occasion like I'm eating crawfish or going to be drinking for a long time period like a LSU game.

Since I'm old and married now I typically just drink on Saturday nights, but I don't half-arse it. I make sure I get a good buzz going, maybe half a fifth.

That’s pretty much how I used to be. I don’t see a problem with it, just got tired of wasting my off days laying around, hungover.

Got called an alcoholic by several ‘do-gooders’ or ex girlfriends because I’d get drunk every time I’d drink, however I was only doing it on non-work nights and wasn’t causing scenes or problems. Basically a happy drunk. Got me confused on if I had a problem or not even tho I controlled when I’d drink to not interfere with responsibilities.

Nope, just a basic understanding of what alcohol is better for you than others.

If you can’t drink beer, whiskey, or rum in moderation without getting fat, you have bad genetics.
