My son is 10 now and doesn't have one. He hasn't asked for one.

One of his buddies (11 years old) has one and his parents will keep in touch with him just to see where he is if hes gone for a while in the neighborhood. Thats all he seems to use it for.

10 seems like a good age for teacher sexting

Have you seen the stupid shite that we post here from our phones?

The appropriate age is "never".

My 11 year old has my wife's old iPhone. She has no service but can FaceTime and text when she's at home alone (which is rare).

I told her she can get cell service when she's old enough to be away from home where there are no adults present.

As soon as he gets a hot teacher, so she can sext him, in case he does win that lottery ticket.

All serious, my daughters got phones when they were 10, but they rarely used them. By 12, they used them because their friends had them by then.

So by 12.

Most if not all the middle school kids have them

I was 12 or 13 when I got my first cell phone, that was in 03 or 04. That seems like a reasonable age, that's when most kids start getting involved in after school activities and spending more time at friends houses.

Sad that it's come to this these days. I remember being told to be home before the street lights turned on.

I didn't have one until 24, so that seems about right.

My 10 year old has an iPad that she can Facetime and iMessage from when connected to wifi. No reason for a cell phone yet since she isnt going anywhere without an adult that I can reach on their cell. Maybe around 13-14 when they’re old enough to be getting dropped off at places like the mall or school dances

Probably 12 or 13 with limits. A lot of my students (9th grade) tell me their parents make them turn in their phones at night and they go through it. But that way they have it in case their parents want to get in touch and to keep up with friends.
