It's not ignorant.

I've never met one single self identified, so called cajun who wasn't loud mouthed and trashy.

In fact, all this white trash that proudly calls themselves cajun are the Alabama equivalent to all those dipshit rednecks who proudly claim to be part Cherokee. They love babbling about that shite.

But everytime I drive through so called "cajun country", I see a bunch of trailers and shite with tires on top of their roofs and window panes covered in aluminum foil. What's that stupid shite about?

On my mother's side, yes. Do I consider myself cajun? Not so much as I wasn't raised in such a manner. Did I experience the cajun culture? Yes.

Consider myself more metropolitan New Orleans than sleepy Bayou Pigeon.

If you look around and you’re surrounded by assholes, you’re probably the a-hole.

I am mostly English and Irish. However, I also have some German and Scottish. Forget the Limeys and Harps. The Germans and Scots are a lot more interesting to me.

I’m not of cajun ancestry.

i can trace both sides of my family directly back to France.

HOWEVER, after a couple hundred years and god knows how many generations of living together, you’d have a tough time telling my family apart from those who are of Cajun descent without an actual family tree.

Well if I were in so called "cajun country", I would have to adapt. When in Rome, ya know.

Perfect timing.

Help me to understand why all you frickers put reynolds wrap in your windows. Usually it's just one single pane of glass. What gives with that shite? Also what's with the tires tossed on top of the trailers?

My surname is french, and I’m from Louisiana, but my dad’s family were Huguenots, not cajuns.

I'm not short or tan, but absolutely have a large amount of cajun heritage.

I can’t answer those questions because I’m not a trashy frick. Are you a redneck from northern Louisiana?

my experience about 90% of the people I meet who claim to be Cajun are just random south Louisiana people who have no more Cajun blood than your average east coast WASP. It’s like every short person in Louisiana with a hint of a tan thinks they should claim Cajun ancestry even though that doesn’t even make sense

Every single person I have ever met from Lafayette claims this.

Since there is no monetary or positional advantage in calling oneself Cajun, why does it mater?

And? Do you think that just because those are the type of people you have met that they are representative of an entire group?

Stereotyping an entire group because of a subsegment of it is why we have so many issues as a society. By all accounts, there are between 700k and 800k people of cajun descent in Louisiana. You really think you have a handle on how all cajuns act?

I guarantee you do not.

hey, there’s a reason the Canadians kicked them out.

If we can just morph this into a USL hissy fit this thread might have some staying power..

I've a lot of Cajun blood in me...all of my grandparents grew up speaking Cajun French as their first language.

The issue for me is that while it's in my blood, it's not really in my life experience. Yeah sure I know about a lot of Cajun things, but my parents moved our family out of Acadiana when I was 1, so I didn't grow up around it.

That tends to be a lot of people.

I always thought I was Cajun. It turns out, I'm more German and Russian than I am Cajun. My French ancestry isnt technically Cajun either as they came directly from France rather than Canada.
