Isn't the main issue here that it's a whale shark, not how it was killed? Whale sharks are docile pelagic vegetarians. Might as well run around killing elephants and giraffes for food. Friggin Asians don't give a shite about stuff like that.

The Chinese as a whole really don't give a shite about anyone but themselves to be honest. The name of their country in the native language is Zhongguo, which means "the center of the world", so they're pretty open on being xenophobic. Aside from their pets, they really don't give a remote damn about the sanctity of the animal kingdom. With Americans that hunt, at least they have a self interest in keeping these animals alive, healthy, and thriving so their sport can continue, but China doesn't really give a damn about all that.

Another person that knows pretty much nothing about the seafood industry.
Whale sharks, vegetarians?

Cows and sheep are docile vegetarians as well (and much more intelligent), and we don't give a frick about killing them by the millions. The Chinese eat fricked up things, we just need to accept it.

I didn't care about the lion that much but THAT video is fricked up. If that whale shark was actually alive then that does piss me off. There are humane ways to do things. Why anyone would cut something up like that while it's still alive is beyond me. It's fricking cruel.

Don't ever go to Tony's Seafood and watch them skin catfish! Despite their best effort some of the fish aren't really stunned when skinned.
For that matter, don't ever go watch pigs being slaughtered. Or chickens. Or horses in a Mexican slaughter house. It's not for the squeamish.

People are upset when they watch that video (I didn't watch it) cause it's a amazing animal. I'm sure 80 percent of people wouldn't care if it was a smaller, less majestic creature. I get that. I have swam with many whale sharks and it is completely an amazing experience. I would never kill one. But, they aren't endangered and people have to make a living and have to eat. Life isn't always pretty when you get a glimpse of reality outside of your comfort zone.

So you know the industry? The people I commercial fished with were the most down to earth, respectful of the sea and its creatures, people that I have ever met in my entire time I've spent at sea.
We had a dolphin jump on our boat that we couldn't pick up (too heavy) and it died. We tried everything we could for many hours and were heartbroken. Some even shed tears.

I have know the best fishermen to be the most respectful as well. It's an understood that humans reign over th earth, yet what we choose to do with that power is telling.

good to know there are some good commercial fisherman out there. What are your thoughts on overall species fishery management, long lining, shrimping and the associated by catch, fish farms? I happen to believe that the inherent conflict of interest that exists makes commercial fishing an unmanageable enterprise. Look at r redfish populations when commercial fishing was unchecked. I fear the same for the worlds oceans.
