Reach out to them or go to the precinct and ask for the investigators information.

If NOPD gave half a damn? Hahahahaha. If they gave 3 molecules of a damn it would be an improvement.
Even if they did it would end there because the DA would just refuse the charges and let them walk.

There's only one logical explanation as to why the key would be missing and suddenly "found" 2 days later.
Inside job with someone working the valet leaving the key in the vehicle or giving it to an accomplice. But the thieves were too dumb to think ahead that it would look really suspicious if the key fob was missing when the owner came to retrieve the vehicle. Management was probably digging into the missing key and who would have had possession or access to the keys based on when the vehicle was stolen, so the thief on the inside got the key back from his accomplice and put the key somewhere it would be "found" to hopefully prevent management from continuing to dig deeper into why the keys were missing.
Management and a police detective need to be looking at the schedule and interviewing every valet who was working at the time of the theft and when the key was "found" today.
ETA: if NOPD won't do anything about it, maybe its worth a call to the state police troop NOLA to see if they can help

NOPD will not reach back out until the guy is caught. When that happens you will have to go down to the station and press charges

Can OnStar just be disabled that easily?

Do you have a lawyer or know one?

A few thoughts after reading OP's posts.
1. Police are a deadend. I have had to report crimes twice. After the initial phone call, I was never contacted again. You hear this a lot, especially in New Orleans.
2. Doubtful that the hotel would give you any video where the valet is. It is also likely that the video, if any, will be deleted after a period of time. Unlikely that they keep all video due to storage issues.
3. You most likely have grounds to sue the hotel. Keep track of every expense related to this. Hire a lawyer. Send a letter requesting preservation of the video and any other evidence.
ETA: Saw a post about parking company being subcontractor. Don't know if that is true or how one would know that. That could be a problem if true.

The hotel is likely washing their hands of it.
They might contract the valet, but they aren't associated in any way. They might let them hang under the canopy or stand in the lobby if they are waiting.
Solid chance they might contract with Canal Place, which could be worth contacting.
There is parking, but I dont think the Westin itself holds any parking. You are parking, and the valet is parking you, in what is essentially 3rd party parking.
Still dont get how the OP could see the truck, Silverado with onstar, but cant now. Or somehow can see the truck but onstar is disabled.

I don’t understand any of it either. I was able to see a previous location on Sunday morning away from garage so maybe that’s when and where they disabled it. No idea. They got me good. My truck was paid for so now I’ll likely have to purchase a pretty used truck or incur another note

You can disable the main and backup battery to shut it off or if they have knowledge they can disable the onstar module.. they usually do all three in one area then move it to a chop shop location. Disabling the module can affect t the car so that usually indicates a strip of the vehicle is happening.

I think you can write that off for tax purposes.

Im going to ask something, not trying to be a dick, but did you look on the rest of the floors in the parking garage?
Satellite tracking doesnt work in parking garages downtown. Every now and then it will bounce out and grab a signal, but not often.
Also, if you know where the last location is at look for a parking garage there.

said they have found the key this morning
Thieves probably just had an extra key/fob made from the original. NOPD won't do it, but might be a good idea to check with local dealers or companies who make keys/program fobs. I know it is also a DIY deal, but doubtful they went that route.

Where you ever a valet?

You’re probably not the first person this happened to. This sounds like an inside job. I hope the perps get caught and you get your truck back. The NOPD sounds worthless to me. Please keep us updated.

No they had video of the thieves hopping in my truck with ski masks and driving off about 30 mins after it was parked. So seems pretty clear cut to me lol
Posted on 7/15/25 at 5:03 pm to Tiger328
Well, just thinking if the keys returned the truck may have too....
Also, you can check the parking ticket portal to see if they left rhe truck on the street and it has been ticketed. We have found cars via there before.
