You know what else was funded to get built? The I-12 to Bush Highway is rapidly moving along too!

Construction Letting Date: TBD The State of Louisiana only approved this project 32 years ago!

Are HOV lanes really better over a regular lane for BR?

I cant imagine that many more people carpooling because an HOV lane is in place.

HOV lanes work in other cities but then again you coonasses in south Louisiana are stupid. So no they will not work.

Yup, going over wetlands and a navigable channel and will require a major purchase of land.

Nope, WBR and Ascension killed the last one.

What is atrocious is the leaders of Iberville and WBR allowed developers to expand, expand and expand without putting any infrastructure in place and then the same leaders took all that tax money and squandered it. Now they want the rest of the people in Louisiana to fix their F@#$ up. Equally atrocious is all the people who moved to WBR and Iberville to buy cheap houses but continue their EBR lifestyle now b!$%^ing because their commute sucks, but they were too stupid to see the problem when they ran to the west side to make their ill informed investment.

I agree. The grossly overloaded cane trucks, for some reason, get a pass on load limits. It is absolutely devastating for roads, especially here in south Louisiana where most of the underlying substrate is river silt. It all begins to slowly sink the minute they put it into operation.

This is a huge problem in our state, we never, ever, make new development pay its fair share of the initial costs and impacts. Maybe we shouldn't let landowner X built 400 houses on 50 ft lots on their acreage, half of which is in a floodzone, in the middle of nowhere on a 2-lane parish road?

Our taxes and fees are meant to cover maintenance, upkeep and general improvements to our infrastructure and communities. However too often existing development and homeowners end up having to subsidize fixing the problems caused by new development.

WBR and Iberville expanding/developing IS NOT the reason for traffic issues on LA-1.

Do you really think a large number of people that work in BR moved out of BR into WBR or Iberville?

very, very true. Drive thru Broussard/Youngsville and this is apparent. But the state has been doing this forever. Build a dozen apartment complexes on Burbank but zero road improvements.

Then start road improvements when LSU fall classes begin and football season starts for maximum inconvenience.

first of all, I don't see that many people moving to the west side. Seems to be a lot of natives staying on that side.
Second, how is this any different than whats happened in LP or AP? They did the same shite. So you are correct IP and WBR should've know better, but the traffic problem still exists. We've spent plenty on I12 and I10 to address white flight from BR. LA1 desperately needs some attention.

But I agree there should be better control over development to address what you've brought up.

This is gonna really save lots of time for the Brusly to Erwinville commuters.

I live in Brusly and my parents live in Erwinville, so I'm sure they'll be happy that they don't have to plan an outing weeks in advance to see their grandchildren...

It will be a nice bleed-off valve for everything that gets bottlenecked over the intracoastal bridge right there. It really came to the surface how bad that was when they did their bridge repairs. I was looking down the barrel of a 2 hour one way trip to get to work. I can't imagine what would happen if I had to go to a hospital during that time.

Even if its being misused, at least its being misused for something legit. Not to equip golf carts in Morgan city with GPS units, or to remove confederate statues in some park. There are far worse things they could have misspent the money on.

I'd have to agree with that.

The BP spill was an environmental and economic disaster for Louisiana. The funding should go to projects with an environmental or economic impact (such as new bridges or coastal restoration).

Hopefully the west side can get a new hospital constructed somewhere in the Brusly/Port Allen area near I-10.

Industrial expansion on the west bank certainly contributed. A lot of EBR residents commute to the plants along the river on the west bank.

I was referring to the residential development not being the big contributing factor to the LA-1 traffic. Yes the plant workers are what contribute the traffic issues on LA-1. Which I see that as a necessary evil.

Probably because one of the reasons this state is so fricked up id because it doesn’t use funds where they are supposed to be used. Also, in the justification for the BP fines I’m sure this money was allocated for something else otherwise why is BP paying it. So something somewhere related to the BP oil spill isn’t getting taken care of.

Doesn’t sound like you’ve done a ton of research on the subject.

Louisiana received/is receiving roughly $1 billion from BP over 15 years for economic damages, e.g. lost tax revenue. That is the source of this infrastructure money, which is basically being spent on exactly what it was intended for. Keep in mind the state has a $14 billion infrastructure backlog.

Separately, the state is set to receive roughly $6 billion due to environmental violations, which will mostly be spent on coastal restoration (supposedly, remains to be seen).

So I’m not really sure what you’re pissed about?
