A major shot in the arm for Louisiana’s infrastructure came out of the capitol Monday, June 3.
One of the biggest projects is a connector for West Baton Rouge Parish to ease some traffic off the interstate. This is possible thanks to House Bill 578, which is “all but guaranteed to pass.
“We finally got it done and it’s an exciting day for the entire state,” said Senator Rick Ward.
Sen. Ward is one of the authors of HB 578. The bill took litigation dollars from the BP oil spill in April of 2010. The explosion killed 11 people. It’s why legislators held a moment of silence in their honor Monday.

West Baton Rouge Parish President Riley “Peewee” Berthelot has been hoping for the connector between LA 415 and LA 1 for years now, with plans already drawn up. The project will cost about $125 million. It’ll include two lanes in each direction for three miles. The goal is to get drivers off at LA 415 to funnel them towards LA 1 instead of waiting on I-10. Currently, Berthelot says they’re in the process of updating the environmental study.
The bill also includes funding for HOV lanes on I-12 between Baton Rouge and Walker and funding to widen Hooper Road in Central all the way to Greenwell Springs.

125 million for 3 miles of road?

If it spares one single life, I don't care how much it costs. More people have died or have been seriously injured on that stretch of interstate than you can imagine - some just wanting to get to Hwy 1. This is a good thing.

it does include a bridge

It's good that they have another bridge over the intracoastal but I don't see this really relieving that much traffic

Are we ever going to build a loop? Will this be built to interstate standards, or will have to pay to tear it down 3-5 years after its finished to finish the loop?

A 4 lane bridge, property/right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, wetland and floodplain mitigation, traffic control, intersection installations...

It will require a bridge that needs clearance for barges, so I imagine it’s a little more expensive than just asphalt

125 million for connector only

Louisiana doesn't tear down anything generally. They just add to it. Since no loop will ever be built, its irrelevant.
Since maintenance is pretty much nonexistent, you could build to any standard you like and it will still be shitty in 5 years. By the time we build the extension via the lowest bid, and cane trucks beat the extension to death during grinding season, the road should be ruined within 10 years of completion.

I can't believe they are using BP money for this. What a joke.
If the people of WBR want this, put a toll on it.

BP Oil Spill money should be used to repair the coast.

Peewee is a POS, he can DIAF as far as I'm concerned. That being said, It's about time they build another Intracoastal Bridge.

I know it's a massive project, but they need to extend 3127 all the way to I-10. It would be kind of a loop, traffic going West out of NOLA to points west of BR could take 310 to 3127 to I-10, avoiding going through BR.
