Yeah, we have hysterical people here in AL claiming that we will have 5,000+ dead in a couple of months, all based on some model from the University of Washington. They are using this to advocate for ever more draconian restrictions. I'm no expert by any means, but I just don't see this in the numbers or in the limited info we are getting on hospitalizations.
I too wonder whether the people pushing these doomsday models are going to have to account when this is over.

Louisiana governor says state could run out of ventilators by end of the week if coronavirus cases continue to rise
The target is ever moving. Don't think this won't continue to happen. We actually had a DECREASE in the ventilator usage yesterday, but according to the JBE we will run out in 3 days.
The news March 29th was to run out of ventilators by April 4th.

Of course the date is moving. How could it not? In the past week, LA has received ventilators from the Nat'l Strategic Reserve and through private vendors. LCMC ordered additional ventilators three weeks ago that are starting to be delivered. I'm sure other hospitals have, as well.

This is before anything the Feds gave us.
Yesterday we went from 571 ventilators in use to 561 ventilators in use across the state. Meanwhile, JBE has continued to cry for 12,000 more from the Feds.
His target is irresponsibly overstated.

I don't know where that 12000 (sometimes 10000) number originated. I've seen it mentioned on TD in multiple threads over the past week or two. If Edwards actually requested 12000 vents from the feds, it is probably related to one, or both, of the following:
1) Competing for scarce resources (squeaky wheel gets the grease)
2) Based on worst case scenario from early inaccurate projections.
I know JBE isn't beyond scare tactics to get his way. I remember when "LSU football may have to be cancelled" to solve the budget crisis. What I don't understand is what good is any of this doing him now? What's he achieving by using the moving ventilator target as a scare tactic?

In regard to "ventilators"...
I have no doubt that JBE is using a strict definition of ventilator when quoting his date for exceeding capacity. I think he is using the figure for strictly designed for ICU use ventilators, as opposed to all ventilators - anesthesia machines, EMT vents, etc. It serves the purpose of begging from the feds by making conditions look more dire.

Such a stupid take, OP. Predictions are based on the continual path of current trends. If we change what we are getting (such as get more ventilators, or change what we are doing so we need less ventilators) obviously the date will change.

The projections were based off all the measures that were being taken at the time. NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
JBE has done nothing but try to scare everyone. The same thing he did with calling to shut down LSU football. Its bullshite.

2) Daily count of patients improved enough to be removed from ventilators.
3) Daily deaths of patients on ventilators.
4) Daily count of patients who's condition degraded enough to require ventilation.
That's four things that CHANGE DAILY, just off the top of my head. If you can't understand this, I can't help you.
