Actually there was another plane allowed to fly that day.

It was a medical plane because on it was antivenom for a snake bite victim in Florida from a rare exotic snake.

We got this radio request—Code Alpha—a high priority incoming aircraft. It wanted 150,000 pounds of gas, 40 gallons of coffee, 70 box lunches, and 25 pounds of bananas. It wouldn’t identify itself.

As I mentioned in another thread, I was working for the government during 9/11 and by the time AF1 got into the air I was in a Command Post. Information was shite and 99% of what we knew was coming from cable TV. Not very impressive.

My cell phone rang and it was an elementary school teacher I knew in Bossier City, LA. I answered, because frankly there wasn't shite else going on, and she was frantic. She told me that Bush and AF1 were coming to Barksdale AFB and that was freaking her out because now they were going to be a target. Her school, Stockwell Elementary, wasn't far from base. I laughed and told her to calm the frick down. I asked her who told her this stupid shite and she said "one of the Air Force wives."

I explained that the entire point of AF1 was to keep the President in the air where he was safe and that they wouldn't be setting down anywhere until things were sorted out. She calmed down and I got off the line. I told the others in the room about the call and we all got a chuckle. Not five minutes later, the STUIII phone rings and it is the Ops Center in DC informing us that AF1 is coming to Barksdale AFB. My boss replied "I know" and they gave us a big WTF? He simply told them "the Air Force wives network let us know already."

They ended up tracking it back to an officer that was on duty in the tower and he got busted/lost his clearance/fired depending on who I talked to later. Guy found out AF1 was coming to base and about the first thing he did was call his wife. Huge security breach.

Why are you calling caterpillar a dumbass?

He said:

quote:

25 lbs of bananas is about 65-70 bananas. So they had a box lunch and a single banana for everyone on board.

65 divided by 25 is about 2.6 bananas per pound.

THen you said "one pound bananas" which was not what caterpillar said. So he said your math was bad.

Then you say:

quote:

you need about 3 bananas to make a pound. Dumbass

70 bananas would only weigh about 23 lbs, must have been closer to 80.

I like GWB. But his comparison to a monkey has been done a million times. I was just playing on the familiar.

ETA: I actually told the Kids Saturday for the game. We parked right in front of Delta Chi and they overheard me and the gf talking about Max Gruver death and easy parking along the frats that morning(about 11:45).
While passing the DKE house, I told them that not all frat boys were bad and that George W Bush was one of them.
They were obsessing over fraternities being terrible for killing a pledge. See? I did good.

Any time an argument breaks out over something stupid and OT from the original topic, should be hence force known as "banana math".

EX: The topic is the QB situation and you clowns are over here doing banana math.

I was working at the BR airport when 9/11 happened. We were given the order at one point that everyone had to leave the complex. Then, an hour latter told we could get back in. This was about the same time in the morning that AF1 landed at barksdale. I speculate they cleared the BR airport just in case AF1 needed to make an emergency landing there.

Not sure all of them can handle a 747. Hell, I am not sure Baton Rouge can handle a 747 but 777Tiger is right I am sure. I would bet money that was just locals wanting to do something/anything. Lot's of people felt pretty useless that day watching the TV.
