That's pretty cool they could stop peddling scentsy and essential oils long enough to get a hot take on the next terrorist target on 9/11.

I will go out on a limb and say that it's something they keep stocked when the president uses AF1, just in case... Something like.. 9/11 happens.

Or Chennault
Or Acadiana
Or even Alec for some Cajun's landing
Know how I went to Columbus for UPT?

I miss that FBO life.

It was as of 2012. Chennault was the class favorite. Give the million air a call on unicom and they would have whatever you wanted ready and waiting. Monroe, Little Rock, and even Fayetteville had good BBQ for a buck, but the best food was all south. Meridian had free pizza for military on Fridays. All this is coming back to me now, sorry for the derail OP.

Yeps. Maybe they don't LIKE to land the 747 at BTR But they can and have.

I saw AF1(the big one) at BTR after Katrina. I drove out there and got some pics from Plank Road.

Lafayette can handle it as the runway is .2 miles longer than BTR.

Are the AF1 747s not equipped to take off on shorter runways and land on shorter runways than standard 747s? I'd assume they are.

Also, I'd assume they keep something like MRE's on board for emergencies? I've never considered food or water, but I've heard plenty of times how its made to stay up and flying continually. So I'm assuming they are prepared with a method to supply additional food and water for say a couple of days?

I can say with 99% certainty they are not. They're pretty much a standard 747-200 airframe with 747-400 avionics and engines. There really isn't a need for the capability to land on a short runway. If there is, there are plenty of Herks and C-17s for POTUS to jump on. There are a lot of factors besides runway length that determine what aircraft can land where. Weight, weather, declared distances, weight bearing capacity of the ramp, the list goes on.

This part made me legit laugh out loud:

quote:

Col. Dr. Richard Tubb: As we’re coming in on final [approach], Dan Bartlett comes into my office and says, “Thanks, I took all those pills. Anything else I need?” I said, “What?! Absolutely not! That was supposed to be a week’s worth!” I’m flipping through the Physician’s Desk Reference, that huge book, trying to figure out what the toxic level of Cipro is.

Who knew OysterPoBoy was on AF1 that day?

It’s only 70 lunches - not, 70.000.

I'm no expert but I stayed at Holiday Inn 5 minutes ago on Google. And it's because 747s you typically see at civilian airports are departing on international flights. Tons of fuel.
AF1 can use shorter runways b/c it'll take off without nearly as much fuel b/c it will refuel at the next stop. So yea they can land it at BTR then at say MSY, refuel, then go anywhere.

A Kind of side-topic but related to that utter helplessness in a situation where you're trapped ABOVE the impact/fire/etc.

I wonder how many high-rise employees from mail clerks to execs contemplated or even went as far as stashing parachutes in their offices after seeing the the horrible shite like the Falling Man and many others resort to jumping instead of burning alive. God damn that sucks.
