I was rewatching The Wire this weekend and I haven't watched it since it came out. I noticed in the first season that came out in 2002 that the police were still using typewriters. I was 15 years old in 2002 but I don’t remember anybody using typewriters.

My parents bought us a nice one when my older siblings got to college. It was fancy with the digital screen word processor. I had in in high school.

That would be in 1989. That's doesn't help the OP at all but brought back a pleasant memory.

We still have a typewriter and use it once in a while. Things like filling out Fedex shipping labels.

I think the police still using typewriters (which a lot of departments probably still did at the time for a lot of things) was used to underscore how underfunded they were. That was a running theme through all the seasons.

I was on a flight from Portland, or to Austin, tx in 2013 and someone put a full typewriter in the overhead bin.

If anyone in the world had a typewriter on a flight, it would be a flight from Portland to Austin.

C'mon, man. Didn't dot matrix printers stop being a thing more than 15 years ago? shite, I upgraded to a 24 pin DM printer over 20 years ago, and everyone went inkjet quickly. Request different Fedex labels, or don't, because you can just use pre-sized labels from Avery and you don't need an impact printer for carbon copies.

I worked at a bank in 2005 - 2007 and they were using typewriters for money orders and cashiers checks.

I know when I graduated in ‘99 we still used typewriters. Could’ve just been an OT poor school.

I've always been partial to just writing legibly.

In the Navy we still used typewriters for certain things back then. I've been out a while, but it would not surprise if they still used them today.

Ruston High was still teaching typing in 1993. That’s all I got.

The most useful class I took in middle school besides the maths, would've been a keyboarding class. Teacher was a very old black cranky woman that put an orange plastic cover over the keys so you couldn't see the characters. Really helped me over course of life. I watch my dad have to look at keys when typing. If you were talking during class, she'd make you use a typewriter. This was 2005 or so.

I learned typing from talking shite on counterstrike 1.6. When I got to high school I’d be done with the keyboarding lesson 30 minutes before the rest of the class
