Sure, you can shop and control where you make those expenses, but just like taxes, you have no control over the prices of goods and services.
That’s an absurd position

unemployed social media influencers like livvy dunne pity people like you. She never had to work a day in her life and was making more than doctors at 17 years old. What a time to be alive.

Again, who? Which specific industries have record-breaking profits?
Are you really going to straight faced argue that the wealthiest have not been increasing their wealth at a pace unparalleled in our history?
Not even suggesting what we can or should do about but to not acknowledge it is simple disingenuous.

Do we not have the choice on where to shop, what products to buy, where to live?
I think we'd all love to choose the houses, food and home, health and car insurance, just for example, which cost a similar percentage of our paychecks they did in the past. We have even less choice there as whether to pay taxes or not.

What the frick are we doing? It doesn't have to be this way. Why have we fallen into this trap?
I felt the same frustration a couple of years ago as well. Just burned out on the rat-race. So I crunched some numbers and found that I had done pretty well for myself. I pulled the trigger on retirement on the day I turned 59 1/2 years old.
I am glad I played the game. If you work hard and make good decisions along the way, you will too. Take a good, realistic look at your finances periodically and don’t be scared to do the same when you are financially able. Frankly, I find that most of my friends are also able to retire….but they are just scared.
Society has given the rules to sucess….you just have to follow them.

Amen. Problem is people want quick fixes or short cuts

I would argue that it has absolutely nothing to do with the affordability of living a middle class lifestyle.
Wealth generators are not causing inflation.

You absolutely have a choice. You don’t like the cheaper option because it decreases your quality of life (perceived or real).
Any of us could choose tomorrow to live a lifestyle well below our means but we simply don’t like that offer.
But that doesn’t mean the choice isn’t there.

Again, an absurd position.
I can buy budget insurance, low-cost housing, cheap food, etc. I’m not going to because prioritize spending money on those things.
But I don’t get to shop around my tax bill for a lower rate.

I am old enough to have relatives in my past who lived through the Robber Barron, this is a repeat.

People making themselves miserable so the best time in their lives can be in their 60s are stupid sheep

You control the prices of goods and services you purchase? Why wouldn't you make them all $0 in that case?
Posted on 5/1/26 at 5:05 pm to Antonio Moss
quote:if you are driving farther for a cheaper price are you really saving money? Wal Mart is cheaper on almost everything - do you really want to shop there?
Do we not have the choice on where to shop,
quote:this boils down to quality and how much you are willing to spend. Cheap laundry detergent is just not as good as name brand, same for dish soap
what products to buy
quote:you can only live where you can afford - the bank
where to live?
Is not going to give you a loan for something you can’t pay for, and if you don’t make enough, some apartment complexes won’t let you rent if you don’t make a certain amount
Plus, where can you find a job? My husband has been applying for jobs out of state for years - only a few places called him and they were in expensive areas with no affordable housing (based on the income offered) nearby
Seems we are stuck where we are

Miserable people tend to see themselves as miserable no matter the time in their lives

I can tell you're a great wife; smart and a awesome mom.
(I'm pretty intuitive about such things.)
You're spot-on about out-of-state offers. Companies are cognizant about LA's low pay scales and tend to offer accordingly.
It is also why we tend to struggle hiring out-of-state talent.

Are the salary numbers posted on indeed actually achieveable? Im blue collar but I see jobs like roof repair sales and the salary range says 125-250k a year. Is that realistic or a pipe dream? Saving my body from daily weat is becoming more appealing

Are the fries done yet or what?

I'm sure it's heavily commissioned based like I am (100% commission) so it depends on market area and your drive to sell
