I didn’t realize it was his mother or wife’s mother.

Still if I knew someone close was in the area and I hadn’t heard from them I would check their page.

I lost everything in a storm years ago. Trust me everything is replaceable other than your loved ones. Don't worry about it and think positive, i.e. all of my shite is fixing to be brand new.

I have been though so many hurricanes I can’t name them all, but Camille, Fredrick, and Katrina come to mind right off. We had a few every decade growing up.

Katrina was different. I sat behind an experienced Red Cross worker and a trainee on the plane to Atlanta trying to get back home after the storm. The older women was explaining to the new worker about what they would see and would happen. She never thought about anyone close by being a resident. I will always remember it and how much of it came to pass.

She had to describe the damage, she would see and worse of all the smell, the sickening sweet rotting smell that permeates the air everywhere. The smell and fatigue of the people who can’t shower or lost all their clothes. The sense of sadness, and eerie calm of people just beaten up by nature.
And the heat, the ducking heat. ( I know all this too well)

But the the shite that really mattered. She said people who could would leave. The good doctors, lawyers, professional, engineers, all the smart and talented young people that you need to rebuild would leave. 20-25% of the population would leave and never return. This would change everything. The insurance company will screw everyone they could and most people would not have money to rebuild. Entire neighborhoods would change, etc. Rebuilding and recovery would take decades not years. Somethings would come back some will disappear. Etc. I listened intently as this old women explained my fate.
Pleasantly but matter of fact. Unfortunately, as I surmised at the time, by the way all the young relief workers listen so intently she knew her shite, and was correct.

I hope you fare better. Prayers sent

Been there, done that. Thanks fricking Harvey. All you have when you get rescued in a boat from your house is family, pets, and your own life. Leaving a flooded house kinda puts all of that in perspective.

Good luck OP. Hope you have flood insurance is all I can say or otherwise, prep thy anus. I didn't.

You're probably ok. You have insurance? I don't think PCB will have wide spread flooding.

This guy is North of front Beach road And storm surge, from the video I have seen isn't even making fbr impassable. It's possible his house is in a bad spot that might flood, but I doubt the majority of the general area he described will flood.

We went and boarded the windows Monday. It's on Memory Lane by Sunnyside, fitting street name I guess, since that's what it might be after this.

Life Safety >>>> Materials

As much as it sucks, one can rebuild a house, but not a life.

so true, glad I don't live in FL anymore but it didn't take long for me to learn to pack up and GTFO of dodge when a storm was coming our way, nothing material that can't be replaced

Yeah, likely avoiding storm surge flooding had to be some relief, but still high potential for significant wind and debris damage. Best of luck to op.

Sorry to hear this. I believe the eye passed directly over Tyndall.

Was stationed there back in the late 80's. Had to evac for "Elise" and "Kate". But luckily I was just in the dorms back then.

Best of luck. At least you got out with the most important things family and your life.
