Prayers would be appreciated. Probably about to lose everything, toughest thing I’ve ever had to do.
Sorry to hear. My parents had two beach houses in Port St Joe. We are assuming they're gone.

Have friends in an area called Port St. Joe. They are posting on FB and are very under whelmed at what is being reported on Weather Channels verus real time wind speeds. They still have electricity, moderate surge about 4 to 5 ft lower level of thier condo that is 1/2 mile from beach. Wind is steady and strong but no where near blowing you down just pushes you along so to speak.
My mom is in Cottondale and they have 4 downed oak trees and 1 pine tree. The wind is for real. They heard that all the buildings on the gulf side of PSJ are gone.

Or like maybe picking up a telephone...
It was 3:30 in the morning, her time, when I made that post and I'd already found out she was safe. Why would I call her?

Anyone who is relying on facebook as their primary means of communication in a serious event like this barely has the intelligence to understand "evacuation".
Again with the comprehension skills. Saying that I saw something on facebook does not equal "facebook as their primary means of communication". I'm not calling my mom to ask if she's safe at 3:30 in the morning to ask if she's safe when I've already seen she was. I talked to her today during normal waking hours.

It was the mother of that poster
He's now thinking "dammit I really need to call my mom more often".

I didn’t realize it was his mother or wife’s mother.
Still if I knew someone close was in the area and I hadn’t heard from them I would check their page.
Jeez, people really ran with this shite. Here is how it went down:
I read that storm is supposed to be worse than I thought.
I say as much to my wife and express concern for my mom
Wife tells me she saw that they evacuated on Facebook
OT brain trust decides I'm a bad son who doesn't talk to his mother and relies on facebook as primary communication

Why do people say shite like this? If you have the right amount of coverage and you lose your house like the OP says he will, what’s there to fight about?
Pay the man his limits and move along. It’s not that complicated.
Unfortunately its not that cut and dry these days. Insurance company will say you didnt have the right “type” of coverage and try to deny claims. You can’t just have flood insurance these days. They want you to have wind coverage, flood coverage, etc.

Prayers for you and everybody affected. Went thru the 2016 flood; lost much materially, lost no loved ones or pets.
Some advice -from experience- for those who lost a lifetime of possessions.
I came to realize after a couple of days of wailing and gnashing of teeth over irreplaceable photos and books, that I was free from worrying about those things ever again. And that I would enjoy whatever new future possessions without them having a hold on me like the old ones did.
But it did take some serious wailing at first.
And I did have my family and pets safe, even my MIL. Selah
