Opal is a wet fart compared to the shitstorm Michael's about to drop on that place. Good you got out.

There almost certainly will be people who said "I made it through Opal fine. I'm staying" yesterday who won't be saying anything ever again after today. The placement of landfall makes all the difference.

Are you in an old house? Are you worried about the wind or storm surge flooding?

I just hope the giant spice worms pull through okay. Lord knows how important the spice trade is to that area.

Just found out from my wife that they evac'd to Mississippi earlier today. That's what I get for never checking Facebook.

Anyone who is relying on facebook as their primary means of communication in a serious event like this barely has the intelligence to understand "evacuation".

Why? Facebook is a great way to let family/friends that you are ok. Now if this was immediate family then yeah they could have called but it’s great for letting a lot of people know.

Why do people say shite like this? If you have the right amount of coverage and you lose your house like the OP says he will, what’s there to fight about?

Pay the man his limits and move along. It’s not that complicated.

Because insurance companies are for profit businesses. I have several friends that are still dealing with trying to get paid from Harvey a year ago.

I was thinking the same thing. I talk/text my mom 4/5 days a week. This dude seems out to lunch.

Really? If you go more than a half day without checking, you'll have to scroll for probably 30 minutes or more to get back to the last post you read. All that bullshite and you have to rely on noticing one post that says "we're evacuating now. updates later". Didn't this post refer to an in-law that was evacuating? That seems to be close enough to "immediate" family to spread the news by actually speaking to each other.

Because it’s the truth. Insurance companies don’t like paying out money. They will either find a technicality to not pay or put it off for as long as possible.

“Oh, that water damage wasn’t from the storm itsself. It was from the canal that backed up. We’re not paying.”

You do know that you can delete and hide all the people that post BS on facebook right?
I have trimmed my list of friends/family down to about 100 and I have some groups and businesses that I follow. Pretty damn useful to me.

I guess I got lucky. Didn’t have to fight them at all after Katrina. Adjuster came out. Saw the damage. Called it a total loss. Cut me 2 checks. One for full limits to cover the house and the other for contents.

Had enough to renovate and even add 600 sq ft plus an extra bathroom.

Have friends in an area called Port St. Joe. They are posting on FB and are very under whelmed at what is being reported on Weather Channels verus real time wind speeds. They still have electricity, moderate surge about 4 to 5 ft lower level of thier condo that is 1/2 mile from beach. Wind is steady and strong but no where near blowing you down just pushes you along so to speak.

The OP said his house will be a total loss. What’s there to argue about?

Opal sucked. The difference in the beaches between the summer of 95 and summer of 96 was incredible.
