Poor farmers don't realize that it'll be billions of Zimbabwean dollars...or about USD $3.50.
I didn't realize they are trying to switch back to their own currency. When I was there in 2019 we paid for everything in USD. Official Visas, airplane tickets, housing, etc. It blew my mind when the local workers told me their monthly salary was around $8 USD.

On a separate note, people in the US who think we have a poverty issue should go check out Zimbabwe.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but Bob Marley was 50% white, an unfortunate fact.

All this BS will be here before you realize it.

Oh wait.

absolutely. same way I’d opt out here if there isn’t a strong enough coalition to push buck on the bullshite we’re dealing with right now. I’m a quarter Scandinavian. I’ll deal with their politics as long as a politically significant portion of the population isn’t hell bent on the modern equivalent of ethnic genocide

That is only funny because the only genocides all happened well after British rule.

Unless you forgot

Rwanda Civil War
Kenyan Crisis and related
Sudan Civil Wars

I am getting bored

Sierra Leone
Ivory Coast
Somalia
Nigeria
Ethiopia

Any one else want to chime in with territories that only had genocides after leaving the UK

The only people who have been allowed to have Hitler mustaches since 1945 are Mugabe and Michael Jordan

Vacation. We stayed at a safari lodge and took a day trip to Victoria falls. It was part of a larger trip that also included Zambia and South Africa.

Some dude claims he fights against ethnic genocide

And he has not a fricking clue about hundreds of millions people killed in ethnic genocide in Africa

In other worlds that guy is a fricking retard

Still thinks white people are running in mud streets with machetes raping and killing girls in South Sudan

They are Biden voters

Wow. I would be compelled to give him a few hundred bucks just for the frick of it. Could you imagine just having a conversation with somebody and they say “here ya go, here’s 4 years salary. Take care of your family and then...hookers & blow”

I wonder if South Africa is paying attention here?

Who would have ever guessed that in 2020 Algeria with a 99% muslim population would have the highest HDI score in the African continent.

And every single one of the old UK territories would have completely fricked up everything since independence.

Magical really.

As a quick aside, I've never been to Algeria, but I have spent time in North Africa. A lot of it is pretty damn cool and quite nice. Morocco, Tunisia, et al (and I would imagine Algeria) are as Mediterranean as they are Arab and certainly are culturally, politically, and economically oriented more towards the Med than they are Africa.

I will also take this opportunity to plug When A Crocodile Eats the Sun again. Amazing book.

We tipped everyone at the lodge (8 workers total) 50 bucks each for our 3 night stay and their reaction was something I'll never forget. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you to three of them had tears of joy, and the other five were smiling bigger than I thought was humanly possible.

It was when our driver was bringing us back to the airport that he told us about the average $8 a month salary, and that we had just covered those workers expenses for the next four months.

A few. Sat next to a 90yo white lady with a Zimbabwean passport on a flight from Victoria Falls to Johanasburg. By far the most interesting seat mate I’ve ever had.

My other big take away from being there was the line of cars at gas stations.

At the time(and they still may be, not sure) Zimbabwe was have severe gasoline shortages. Apparently the fuel truck was schedule to come once a week and fill up the town gas station. However because of the shortages that didn't always happen. So people would drive their vehicle to the gas station, park it in line, and walk away. You would see a line of vehicles parked starting at the gas station and going down the side of the road. Our driver told us that that line was started a week and a half ago, and that they didn't think the truck was going to make it this week. It made our gas runs for hurricanes look like child's play.
