The ole raise your own reparations scheme.

I see a few 1-800 numbers on signs around town that may be able to solve Zimbabwe's credit score problem. Not sure if works on the international bond market though.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe’s government on Wednesday signed a deal with former white farmers to pay them billions of dollars in compensation roughly two decades after they lost their land in often violent invasions.
But because the government does not readily have the money, the farmers will be part of a team tasked with raising the cash.

The full payment is expected to be done within five years. But it is unclear if the former farmers will receive the money given that Zimbabwe is financially troubled and burdened with a huge debt.
The government will borrow on international markets and the farmers will be part of a “joint resource mobilization committee” tasked with raising the money, according to the agreement.

If I’m a farmer, I’m not hanging around fricking Zimbabwe. Cut your losses and GTFO.

Poor farmers don't realize that it'll be billions of Zimbabwean dollars...or about USD $3.50.

South Rhodesia could have still been a part of the United Kingdom and been bailed out many times over by now.
Reap what you sow and all that
A common theme for the majority of the Queens old countries.
What a terrible mistake most made lol

No it’s because they can’t run a farm and produce food, I know that may surprise many of you

They should get a loan from Wakanda.

Did I read correctly? The government is paying the farmers but the farmers have to raise the money themselves.

Wait. So they'll pay you money as a farm owner, after you help them raise the money? Also wasnt there alot of farm owners killed in cold blood over their land, im sure they appreciate money.

I wonder if South Africa is paying attention here?

Who would have ever guessed that in 2020 Algeria with a 99% muslim population would have the highest HDI score in the African continent.
And every single one of the old UK territories would have completely fricked up everything since independence.
Magical really.

Is there any way for a common investor to short these loans?

Imagine your secretary walking in one morning and saying "Good morning sir, I have Zimbabwe on hold, they'd like to borrower $5bn for farming equipment".
I'd choke on my Sonic breakfast burrito.
