I hope so.

Could the specifics involved actually imply that this only applies to certain criteria? I am honestly asking because it seems somehow wrong to expect an insurance company to cover an unlicensed driver in at least some of those events, though I guess the company could sue the driver for their losses?
Lower courts use the rulings of a higher court.

How you get fired on your day off?
Posted on 7/4/18 at 8:03 am to tgrbaitn08
I’m just fricking with you. Lord knows I should’ve gotten one in my youth.
Mingo, I don’t do beer.

This might have more to do with you being a “decent” Manager.

My license was suspended last year because I got a speeding ticket and completely forgot about it and missed my court date. I had moved in between so no notices were received via the mail.
Was pretty easy to pay a fine, take a class, and get it back though.

again, a suspended license is not this big deal. i have no idea why people are trying to conflate it with some terrible crime
Lol, you are smarter than this. Are you his employer? OP didn't say why it was suspended, so yeah I'm guessing it is a big deal. Op most likely deserved to have it suspended, or else his OP would have stated that and furthermore his company would not have fired him.
2ndly, as a lawyer you should know dang well that what the courts say and real life are completely different. OP got his license suspended for a dui then hits and kills someone in his company vehicle after drinking 2 beers at a company party then yeah the court rulings won't mean jack because public opinion will force a payout.
Finally, there's a thing called trust and company policy. It's basically a universal policy that if you drive for your job that you report any driving infractions. So while his vehicle may have still been covered under insurance his company DGAF because it's against company policy.

Going on something that happened 3 years back, seems that they used this bc of some other reason.
He must have pissed off a superior, or a superior has a buddy he wants to put in tigersownitall's position.

it's not really fricked up. i think we all agree that had they known, he wouldn't have been given permission. that's all that i was saying

shite happens all the time and often is b/c of some communication issue with a court
I think this is true to an extent. From the point of view of someone who has been involved in the hiring/management process (only had to fire one person and that was not my call), the issue would be not reporting it to the company if you knew (court issues where you weren't informed are a different matter). And quite honestly, for most companies that are not large corporations with hard policies, this only would result in termination if the company was looking for a reason.

Which is fine. I don't think SFP was saying he shouldn't have been fired, only that driving with a suspended license isn't a big deal. If the OP drives as part of a main job duty and get a DUI I agree he should be fired. That shows bad judgement behind the wheel. However, if his license was suspended over a seat belt ticket that he paid and then wasn't filed correctly that's a bit short sighted and unfair by the company.

This was back in the day where they just wrote you a ticket and let you leave with whoever you were with. As long as you weren’t driving you were free to go.
Charges ended up getting dropped but license was still suspended for 6 months.

Was this a corporation you worked for? That seems pretty lame, like they were looking for a reason to fire you.

Friend got one a couple days before his 21st and blew a .001, but went to jail since he was underage. Oklahoma.
