No shite, of course they do. And no, it doesn't matter how long ago it happened because they now know you might do it again. And if you have a bad accident driving said truck the company is on the hook for any damages because insurance doesn't cover drivers with a suspended DL.
That's pretty much an instafire.

Except for the INSTA part, I would agree with you.
3 years later? No way. Theres more here that we arent being told. No way they fore a solid sales/mgmt guy because of a 3 year old suspension.
It's not like he set a bad example since no one knew at the time.

Only pieces of shite get their license suspended.
Not really.
Got a ticket on my way to Lafayette a few years back. I paid it.
Fast forward about six months to February the next year. I'm driving east on I-40, doing the speed limit and a state trooper comes up behind me.
He then pulls up next to me, drops back, then pulls up again and keeps looking at me. After about a minute, he drops back and lights me up.
Instead of the asking for license and registration, he asked if I was Mr. Mtntiger. I said yes and started thinking something must have happened back home since he seemed to know who I am.
Turns out, he says I'm driving on a REVOKED license. The reason? Some stupid arse at the NCDMV in Raleigh went months without processing ANY paperwork for tickets, and my stuff was found at the bottom of a gigantic pile.
Government at its finest.

My company runs all of this on an annual basis
I got a scare on it a few years ago with a threatening call to my boss saying that I couldn't drive for company business because my license was expired. Yeah....my Louisiana license. My Texas license had been active for years.

I feel like this is more about hiding it and then getting caught. And maybe also partially the underlying reason for the suspension. If it was just a technicality then that should probably be excused.
to the OP- sounds like you are well on your way to another job. If that doesn’t pan out keep your head high!

this is not true in LA

However, the Louisiana Supreme Court stepped in and ruled in Adams v. Thomas, that such an exclusion in an insurance policy is not enforceable as it is against public policy. An insurance company cannot deny coverage under an automobile liability policy for a person who has an invalid or suspended driver’s license as long as: (1) the unlicensed driver is a named insured on the insurance policy; and/or (2) the named insured on the insurance policy gave express or implied permission to the unlicensed driver to use their vehicle.

They should be pulling MVRs on any new drivers. Sounds more like a dumb employer to let someone with a suspended license drive.

Insurance.

Obviously he didn't inform his employer whom was the named insured.
Bad decisions 3 years ago could mean mean bad decisions now or down the road.

How, exactly, did they find this out? were you in an accident then? Why was you license suspended? Is this an OWI situation?
And firing you is probably exactly what they should have done since you exposed the company to all sorts of risk as a result, particularly if you were in an accident during this time period.
But I do hope you land on your feet. If you're in sales in the oilfield and good at it, you'll probably get something fairly quickly.

SFP just posted the ruling that he didn’t expose the company to all sorts of risk and insurance would cover any accident.

Most insurance companies insuring fleet vehicles ask to pull drivers MVR periodically. A company can lose its insurance and it would be hard to find another company to administer if self insured or insure their fleet.
We would send out notices a few months before which the employee who drives a company vehicle would sign to allow the insurance company to do this. The employee can go to their online website to verify the results of the driving record on the same website they can change their benefits and pull their w-2.
If the employee refused they lose vehicle privileges if the vehicle is not necessary.
If the position requires use of the company vehicle they are offered a chance to apply for jobs that do not require vehicle use or they are terminated.
Way too risky to have an employee at anytime during their employment period drive on a suspended license. Employees who use company vehicles are also required to notify HR when they have a moving violation and failure to do so leads to automatic termination.
Most companies have a similar policy.

ETA
I'm sure this ruling has to do with DUI and providing for your family and its up to the company to decide.

Why was your license suspended baw?
How did they just find out about it?

yes i get that but it doesn't remove the protection of insurance, and since they didn't know, they gave him permission
i'm not saying it wasn't an error, but people in this thread are acting like it was a big deal when it wasn't. suspended licenses happen all the time. i deal with little courts a bunch and let me tell you they frick up their paperwork ALL the time and they're the worst at sending the OMV suspension requests for "missed court dates" that never happened.
hell, remember a couple years ago when the state tried to steal tens of millions of dollars from current and former residents b/c the state claimed they had insurance gaps? remember how most of those gaps didn't exist? the state believing you're not insured is the fastest way to get your license secretly suspended and we're talking about shitty and corrupt arse LA bureaucrats processing that information.
