Was a welder in the 80s, if you had told me then I would have laughed at such sorcery. I still have to see this.

Carson Wells : [Wells sits back and studies Moss] What do you do?

Llewelyn Moss : I'm retired.

Carson Wells : What did you do?

Llewelyn Moss : Welder.

Carson Wells : Acetylene? Mig? Tig?

Llewelyn Moss : Any of it. If it can be welded I can weld it.

Carson Wells : Cast iron?

Llewelyn Moss : Yeah.

Carson Wells : I don't mean braze.

Llewelyn Moss : I didn't say braze.

Carson Wells : Pot metal?

Llewelyn Moss : [annoyed] What did I say?

Picosecond is one trillionth of a second: 0.000000000001 seconds

"At the moment, equipment and products that involve glass and metal are often held together by adhesives, which are messy to apply and parts can gradually creep, or move. Outgassing is also an issue—organic chemicals from the adhesive can be gradually released and can lead to reduced product lifetime.

So when Safelite (sp?) comes to replace my windshield they will have to weld it? Doesn't seem really cost effective. I said that as a joke. I can't think of any application where glass and metal are joined together and the glass outlast the metal. It seems cheaper to use adhesive to replace the glass as opposed to doing some high tech welding process.

I just emailed Dan Day, and he's gonna update the commercial for BR Welding Academy. Titans of the industry say that if you sent them 60 welders today, they could justify hiring each and every one. Once you add the glass to metal accreditation, we can probably bump that up to 80. Really exciting times right now in the welding community.

60 seconds in a minutes = 60
60 minutes in an hour = 3600
24 hours in a day = 86,400
365 days in a year = 31,536,000
30,000 years = 9.4608E+11
1 second divided by that is 1.05699E-12

Did I get that right?

Maybe your new windshield will have a thin metal angle iron welded to the periphery of the glass. Then it is screwed into place with a small gasket for the seal.

All I see out of this is that windshields are going to be really expensive to replace in the future.

There are as many seconds in 30,000 years are there are picoseconds in a second.

Have you ever been in a vehicle without a sealed windshield. I could imagine the amount of wind noise a screwed in windshield would make.

Call me old fashioned but these materials should only be welded to their own kind.
