Welded Wire Mesh in Driveway - Yay or Nay?

Any concrete guys here?
4" thick driveway at a house for regular cars/trucks. I have some mesh laying around from past project. Will it help or hurt the driveway? One buddy suggests it won't strengthen driveway and will make future repairs harder.

Id suggest rebar over WWM
Eta: as long as you have proper control joints, you will be okay. Concrete is going to crack no matter what

its difficult to get WWF set in the middle of 4" of concrete...likely it will get pushed to the bottom and do nothing. just make sure you construct your joints correctly and you'll be fine
you can also pour fiber reinforced mix for just a couple extra dollars per yard

It's only purpose is to keep the concrete together, but it's gonna crack some either way.
If you don't make sure to keep it at mid depth it won't do anything and like your buddy says, will be something you have to deal with when you need to replace it.

I've had it in my driveway since '84, some heavy vehicles have been on it and it's fine. Not one crack by the way, anywhere.

At a minimum but I would go with rebar throughout.
Your buddy is a moron by the way. It will help and also help it stay together as it cracks.

3/8 WWF AKA "Highway Mat"
Yes Yes Yes
Most municipalities won't let you put anything in a driveway apron or side walk BUT they should

It sure isn't going to hurt and it is worth putting in if you have it already. If you have enough you could double it up but depending on if it is rolled up it may not stay down.
I'm off the fiber mesh bandwagon, but again it is better than nothing.
My last driveway I helped a buddy with we used highway mesh in sheets 6x6 6 gauge and used plastic chairs, no fiber.

If you got it laying around why not

precisely. Wire's only purpose in concrete is to keep it from shifting. It will crack with it in or with out it.
Personally, I wouldn't do 4" driveway without a really good sub base under, I would go 5 or 6" thick.

I'd go 8" use rebar and fiberglass reinforcement, metal key ways.

I'd also do 8'deep 24"d bell bottomed piers reinf with #4 on 18" centers laid on a 8x8 grid.

You've gotten some good advice, use the wire mesh. As you pour the concrete pull the mesh up into the middle. You should be ok with a 4 inch pour

Do I hear 12"? Why stop at 8? Reinforcements and all are nice but there is no substitute for depth.
