Dad died 2 years ago. But nothing since…
Honestly could be a trigger. Took a good 12 months or more before this kicked me in the balls. My dad and I weren’t super close, but it really throws you for a loop sometimes. The whole thought of life is just damn short and you really start thinking about the past way too much.

Had blood work done, blood sugar a little high (103), but doc said just to watch diet , no meds, etc.
Eh... was that fasting or not fasting? What was your A1C? What was your testosterone?
But... you have no other symptoms other than lack of appetite leading to not eating as much leading to weight loss?

Man.. you kinda nailed it. I was pretty close with him, but those exact thoughts have been rampant lately…
Like who takes care of my kids (male presence.. and not Jody!!), money, will they miss me, etc

I’m hoping I’ll get a few serious answers in between the regular OT stuff…. Been a few months of this for me. Not sure what’s up? Had blood work done, blood sugar a little high (103), but doc said just to watch diet , no meds, etc. Just throwing it out there… anyone experience this?
Never had a bad appetite but I’ve gone through ups and downs since I hit my late 30’s.
Feel great for a few weeks then something starts hurting
I will say you’ve made a couple threads lately that makes me think you’re not happy or stressed.
Maybe it’s work or something but maybe it’s midddle age hitting like me
How old a baw are you?

If you didn’t change diet or work out routines 15-20 pounds is an issue. Could be cancer, diabetes, thyroid
My thoughts too. Unexplained weight loss is a concern. Go see your doctor. If you don’t have one, get one.

I had cancer in my early 40’s and had no symptoms. Caught it completely by chance. Go see your doctor.

20lbs in 3 months is a red flag if nothing else has changed. Surprised you aren’t getting a deeper work up from your gp.

How’d you catch it? What do I tell them to check me for.. all cancer?
Posted on 8/18/24 at 9:45 pm to xBirdx
You need a colonoscopy, TSH, and CT of your abdomen..if all negative in addition to your regular blood work then it’s likely anxiety/stress

How physically active were you in your younger days?
A lot of people go through similar things in their 40's when we're not burning as much energy during the day as we once did, and lose some of the physical outlets for ordinary aggression/energy. It can become more challenging to carve out regular exercise and sleep routines.
Obviously, don't want to be dismissive of any serious health concerns to talk to your doctor about.

I was fairly active. Played sports; etc into mid 30s, play around with the kids in the yard, pool, etc.
14 months ago I had a major injury, and haven’t been able to do more than walk since.

Just tell them that you’ve had unexpected weight loss and they’ll take it from there. You don’t need to tell them anything else.

Could be almost anything from just getting older to full blown AIDS.
Ask a doctor if you're worried.

This along with your father dying may very well be the root cause. In a lot of people depression kills the appetite. In my non-medical opinion it is time to start seeing a therapist.

Get your testosterone checked.
You on any medication?

This sounds very familiar and relatable; and it sucks. Again, not to rule out any other serious health risks, but I think this is possibly it.
Something that helped me a lot was talking to a couple doctors who specialized in joint injury and recovery (one who handles a ton of workers comp for off-shore workers), because their focus and expertise isn't just in pain management, it's in getting you going again. I'll never be 100% again, but I've managed to avoid the knife so far and at least get back to some normal physical activity.
