Lean protein,
Bad advice. Fatty protein is what you should be aiming for - as well as non-protein fats (e.g. take a shot of heavy cream if you are hungry).

I think it's overwhelmingly diet for weight loss . Fitness and weight loss are two different things though.

Weight loss
Physiologically speaking, weight loss is almost all diet. Exercise can contribute, but it is a small factor. I have no idea of an actual percentage.

Psychologically speaking, exercise helps with diet in that someone who does the hard work isn't going to be as apt to ruin the work with a bad diet.

Good health requires both, but diet is still the predominant factor.

To be fair, the medical establishment is still heavily aligned to coach them in the wrong direction. I know of 2 people close to me in recent months who had cardiac episodes and were subsequently put on a "low fat" diet by their practitioners. This is the type of shite we will look back on with horror in 100 years time.

This is not true and the fact it has 13 upvotes to 2 downvotes is concerning

I lost 50 pounds despite eating 300+ grams of carbs on my workout days. Never ate more than 50g of fat during my entire 9 month cut.

anyone can take 5 minutes and do the math and realize with horror that exercise, outside of being good for your heart & muscles, has almost ZERO impact on weight loss.

its laughable people still think if they are in pain from exercising they're getting lean.

Yes, it is true. However, that does not preclude your experience from being true either.

it's like 85-90% diet and 10-15% exercise

Funny you ask. For the last 4 weeks I have been walking a minimum of 10 miles a days, 7 days a week. I have been eating whatever I want, whenever I want. So far I have neither gained or lost a pound. I am beginning to believe it is 95% what you eat and exercise is extra benefit but not necessary to lose weight (fat).

exercise does the following:

- releases 'happy' endorphines which make you feel good about yourself which most likely translates into you feeling you are 'exercising your way to weight loss'

- increases blood flow to heart and lungs and creates/maintains muscle mass and the more muscles you have the more fat they will help burn (particulary large leg muscles)

- for me at least, cause me to not want to eat as much..who wants to pig out after they're exhausted from a 4 hour bike ride?

so there are definitely some benefits to exercise, its just not going to help you lose weight in any signficant way.

insert will ferrel 'i dont believe you' gif here

eta walking is virtually useless. you'd do more to get your engine running with 30 minutes of interval training each day than walking 25 miles a day.

Carbs are not the poison that ketotards say they are

Keto is fine for just losing weight but if you lift keto is terrible. Your muscles need the carbs and glycogen

I'm bulking now so i eat 450g of carbs on workout days. If they were poison i wouldnt be making strength gains and would not be in control of my weight gain. I'm gaining weight at a steady 0.8 pounds a week. I eat rice, beans, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, oatmeal, fruits and veggies. All of those are carbs. None are poison.

Keto works because you do it at a caloric deficit, not because you avoid carbs. Avoiding carbs means your body has to burn fat for energy right off the bat. However any excess fat(caloric surplus) you eat will be stored as fat, hence why it onlt works eating at a deficit, just like any other diet

exercise is good and very important when you lose weight and get past simple weight loss and into aesthetics (sometimes health)

but you can't exercise your way into weight loss. it just isn't physically possible. you don't have enough hours in the day and your musculoskeletal structure isn't strong enough to maintain that theoretic workload

Running 3 miles burns about 450 calories.

A big mac has 536 calories

Alot easier to cut calories with diet, than it is with excercise

yeah, I would not believe me either except I am doing this as part of getting ready for a trip to Disney so that I will be good to go being on my damn feet all day.

I would love to do interval training but unfortunately I have a lung disease that prevents me from doing any strenuous activity. So I walk, and walk a lot.

incorrect. everyone says this.

i competed for several years and was very competitive racing bikes..these road races were often endurance marathons..surviving surges up hills over 50-100 mile course with a crazy-arse sprint at the end.

i had no problem being competitive and moving up the ranks and getting on the podium with a low carb diet.

last years TDF winner also was a low-carb nut (the british guy) but dont let those facts change your thinking.

Well seeing as how exercise can make you gain weight...

When will people stop talking about weight loss and start talking about fat loss. No one wants to lose muscle weight lol.

its like 90% diet. You can easily lose weight without exercise, but its almost impossible to do by exercise alone.
