Want to tell the 26 people that have died (so far) that it was overhyped? Just because something didn't happen to you, doesn't mean nothing happened.
and it has happened every spring since people settled here. If you can't see that these 'weather' people sensationalize every f'n front these days then I don't know what to tell you. They have the boomer generation, who hang on very word of the MSM, paralyzed in fear. Now the local morons cancel every event b/c these guys predict dire times days in advance. We get that people need to be warned, but did everyone in South Louisiana need to cancel everything and hide in their bathroom for this ? No, it barely rained enough to settle the dirt. We can hype the shite out of every weather event and people will still unfortunately die from tornados.

In Birmingham it’s no different. The entire county shuts down today except for a few gas stations. In the end, all we get is some rain. One business closes and it becomes a domino effect. But a tornado hits an hour away and destroys a few trailers and everyone feels justified. This happens 2-3 times a year and it didn’t happen at this level before social media. Nobody’s really any safer. There has to be some middle ground or nuance.
Of course there’s a certain egocentric Birmingham Meteorologist that’s made a lot of money by getting people really wound up and to call him out is complete blasphemy around here.
Nice post sir !

Then don't hide in the basement. Go out and do your thing. No one locked you in.

Amen. Sorry other people don’t see this

Knew this was only a matter of time

Have to say I agree. Arkansas and Missouri not in the risk area, but got destroyed.
New Orleans in a 4 out of 5 Moderate but it rained here maybe 15 minutes, never lost power and we had a normal day. Was like a usual front line passing through, nothing more.

We need some MAGA weathermen to give us the real news and not fear monger.
Glad DOGE is cutting funding for the NOAA.

These sensationalist maps with reds and oranges play a huge factor in decisions made as an abundance of caution. Prayers to everyone that experienced a catastrophic event but for New Orleans metro this never should have been blown up to what it was. We need less scary maps and more common sense meteorologists who can set a realistic expectation.

The guys on the internet are better forecasters than your guy on tv

I don’t know. There was an actual tornado. Could have happened anywhere in the area and also been much worse.
So what?
It’s not like they know where it’s going to happen. All the fear mongering didn’t save the 29 people.
Just a thought experiment…
Let’s say you were going to go to your friends house for the day but decide to stay home because of the “severe weather”. A tornado hits your house and kills you. Did the fear mongering help you?
It’s not exactly clear cut that scaring everyone over a potential tornado is actually saving people. Can you provide any data?

What does this mean ? No, just don't sensationalize EVERY front. As others have posted, they started this DOOMSCAST last weekend. Red shade 5 warning, exceptional, only see this once in a decade or so. NOLA cancels a St. Patrick's Day parade and it barely even rained. Come the F'k on.

Fear and drama gets more clicks. More clicks = more money.
It’s that simple.

understand there was some really severe weather in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama

Currently under flood advisory until 8pm and it has drizzled for 5 minutes.
It's almost like weather is hard to predict and forecasts are pretty regional. But we always have people mmqbing and they criticize everything when it doesn't live up to their own expectations.
When reality comes in and today was a pretty bad day for a lot of people across the South

Clicks. And hysteria sells.

And I’ll ask again. Did the fear mongering save anyone?
The tornados still killed people where it hit. Unless you know where the tornado is going to go there is not point in scaring everyone.
This isn’t a hurricane, that’s different.

Very possible people survived by going to storm shelters etc.. but you won't hear about that on social media.
People act like they were forced at gun point to watch the weather

They were in a Moderate risk area yesterday.

These threads are just nuts considering like 25 people have died in a fairly stout tornado outbreak
Posted on 3/15/25 at 7:55 pm to L5ut1g3r
I like my local meteorologist. Other day there was a tornado warning and he said "Nah, I am not seeing a tornado here. Not sure what NWS is looking at."
