No. How about we stop funding & waging wars overseas? frick Ukraine, frick Israel & frick Palestine.

And frick foreign aid. Let’s focus on the USA.

Put that money to good use. Healthcare, homelessness, addiction, inflation, roads, etc…

Fast food alone is not making people obese my dude. Grocery store shelves are the main issue.

This right here is the real issue. My family immediately started dropping bad weight when we moved overseas without having to make any significant changes to our diets. We just have better options on the shelves and in the markets here.

I don't care what you shove down your pie hole. This is America!

The problem is when other people cause my costs to go up, I kinda do care. The amount of obese people are causing health insurance premiums increases; however, making someone else pay more taxes is never the answer. Perhaps let insurance companies tier their premiums on something like BMI or body fat percentage

I think one of the reasons we have turned the corner on cigarette consumption is taxes. It has worked. I smoked for 10 years out of college and quit 29 years ago. No way I could spend that kind of money again to help destroy my health. I think this has had a positive effect of health care costs. Unfortunately, obesity related diseases have swallowed up any savings realized.

People often blame companies for the obesity problem, but it's worth noting that food has never been as readily available to everyone as it has been in America the last 60 years. Could it be that smoking, a zero-calorie habit, met some physiological need to consume, essentially acting as a zero-calorie snack? It's interesting to observe that as smoking rates declined, obesity rates increased. Perhaps not everyone has the mental discipline to watch calories and to exercise to exercise, and smoking was effective for controlling weight, and when we disententivised it we created another problem.

The obesity problem in America isn't a fast food problem. It's not a exercise problem. It's not a grocery store problem. It's a culture problem made up of all those factors and many many more.

Better is available but people have to want it. They have to want to make it happen. Sadly, too many people want to continue to suck on the govt's tit and blame someone /something else for their problems.

This makes sense for left leaning voters but it's incredibly hypocritical for those who THINK they're right leaning and they're the worst. They're the ones who criticize others for not being responsible, playing their part, contributing equally, etc. but deep in their soul they don't true independence.

Yes. Let’s make things more expensive than they already are. That’ll help.

Ban advertising. Ban kid meals. Require a surgeon general warning about over consumption of fast food may kill you. Require photos of clogged arteries and fat people in bikinis on the walls.

Tax fast food an extra 3% with proceeds going to a state’s Medicaid Funds.

Heck since Louisiana is staring down a deficit of 450 million dollars when the extra .45% sales tax rolls off. Just reimplement 1-2% sales tax on all food on the state level. Currently food is exempt from state sales tax when the revised Stelly plan passed a decade or so ago. Hot/Ready to Eat Food like Fast food is still taxed at the state level.

Fast food has been hit hard with the inflation tax over the last few years.

How’s it working?

I don’t need my money stolen because other people can’t control themselves

You’re an idiot

There are eight counties that implemented a sugar tax on soda several years ago and its shown to have worked in lowered consumption

Yeah, sure.. See below for why Berkeley researchers want it to have worked and will shape their outcome ti say so.

Food stamps should prohibit even moderate sugar consumption. You're adding future healthcare costs to the taxpayers every time you allow someone on food stamps to purchase big sugar sodas and other high sugar garbage snacks.

Food stamps should only cover staples and raw produce/meats. No tv dinners, snacks, sodas, pre packaged meals or sides. You want free shite you better do the work to cook your own meal.

Basically stamps should only allow purchase of flour, sugar, spices, marinades, water or juices, produce, rice, potatoes, pastas, chicken, beef, pork, etc

I don’t believe that’s true. The explosion in obesity occurred as we began to eat modified foods, and things like seed oil. That’s why it exploded so quickly. The fraudulent claims that fat is bad for you, and makes you fat, was a major part of the problem. Peoples habits didn’t change overnight, but the ingredients in what they were eating did.

I'm not saying you're 100% wrong, the food most people are consuming is definitely more unhealthy than in the past, but people's habits did change rather quickly, leading to increased obesity rates. Consider the following:

Welfare programs ensure that everyone can eat until full, without the physical effort required in the past to earn the income required to do so. We even provide multiple meals to school aged children on top of the food stamp program.

We have successfully disincentivized smoking. However, many people who quit smoking report weight gain, as smoking was a zero-calorie habit that helped control their appetite.

Fat shaming is no longer a socially acceptable practice. Which reduce the societal pressure to maintain a healthy weight.

Fast food restaurants are now on every corner, offering convenient, high-calorie meals that contribute to excessive calorie intake.

High-calorie sodas and candies are placed at every checkout point in grocery stores, encouraging impulse buys and further increasing calorie consumption.

Video games kept generations of kids inside and sedentary compared to previous generations.

I’ve also seen little things such as people in subdivisions use riding lawnmowers instead of push mowers to cut their grass.

These are all changes in habits, all of which promotes overeating, or promotes less activity leading to weight gain. The cure is simple eat less move more, but in our modern society it isn’t easy.
