I floated the idea of completely skipping Christmas to my wife. I don't mean this year, but to just pick some future year and opt out of anything Christmas-related.

i would think this year would be the perfect year to reset Christmas and get back to basics. life sucked this year and is likely going to suck for up to a decade. we need to remember what Christmas really is about

sadly, the opposite is happening and people are like "THIS YEAR SUCKED I NEED MUH CHRISTMAS DOPAMINE NOW!"

...and then ironically complaining about the corporatization of Christmas

Just wanted to say that White Winter Hymnal is NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG. I think it's about the Bolshevik revolution.

You either wear red on your scarf or you'll spill red blood on the snow. Given the rise of leftist authoritarianism, the song may be more relevant than in the past....but it's still not a Christmas song. The stations around here play it in their Christmas program and it pisses me off.

what dickless communist is listening to Christmas music prior to American's most sacred holiday?

One of the stations in Bham (Magic 96.5) starts playing wall to wall, non-stop Christmas music on Nov. 1 every year. My MIL freaking loves it. Along with this she’s already put up all nine (yes, nine) of her Christmas trees. She has one per room in her house and each tree has its own theme. And that room is likewise decorated along with however that room’s tree is done. And if she’s not watching Newsmax, you can bet your arse she’s watching Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel.

In her defense I can promise you she’s as far from being a Communist as was Ronald Reagan. As to the dickless part, well you have a point there.

I’m not gonna lie, I freaking love my MIL. She’s is freaking awesome. She’s 70, widowed (twice now actually), and is the quintessential grandma. We go to her house every Sunday for lunch, today is beef tips & rice.

I grounded my daughter for trying to play a Justin Bieber Christmas song. Bing Crosby would beat him with his pipe!

Doesn't make it good, example popular movies and mainstream music.

Because crippling debt always makes things better. This is the fundamental reason why I lean into thanksgiving and take a step back during Christmas. For all its magic, inevitably it turns into high interest credit card bills for the next 8-10 months.

She’s the definition of a old school Southern lady. And she makes from scratch a banana pudding that I do believe if it could be distributed widely would result in world peace.

What Thanksgiving things are you doing right now? I get complaining about Christmas starting too soon is a fun thing to do, but Thanksgiving is a one day holiday. You can get started on Christmas, put it on hold on Thursday to give Thanksgiving its rightful due, then pick up Christmas in full force.
