The virus wouldn't have just disappeared if nobody left their house. It would've just spread more slowly, meaning a longer time before herd immunity is achieved. Herd immunity will be what eventually gets us back to normal life long before a vaccine because even once they get a vaccine, its going to take a while to be able to mass produce enough of it to meet a worldwide demand.

The virus isn’t shite. As testing goes up, so do positives, but deaths are plummeting. That means it’s been here longer than we realized and far more people have had it than we think.
