I never knew Nixon encouraged the Southern Vietnamese to boycott the peace talks in Paris solely to help him get elected president.
I’ve always hated the Nixonian philosophy of politics (whatever it takes to be elected) but I never knew he may have halted talks that could have saved American lives all just to get elected.

This is a series yet last day is an amazing documentary. I cant believe anyone made it out of there.

The series is really well done but don't think it is actually an objective piece of documentary filmmaking.

4 successive Presidential Administrations feeding the American public and their soldiers lie after lie after lie. 50,000 dead Americans half a world away and that same government was killing kids for protesting a war.

Growing up, I was always fascinated with the Vietnam war articles in the newspaper(which my parents tried to hide from me) and watching it on the news. I distinctly remember having this conversation in ninth grade with our History teacher about whether you would go or not. Many years later, after three tours in Iraq as a Blackhawk pilot, I learned my answer. War is an insidious high, that is hard to compete with in civilian life. It is a very difficult transition to go from a life or death situation on a daily basis, to a mundane, boring schedule back in the real world.

When I was a kid on my one street I had three friends I grew up with that had
1/ an older brother flying A7 Corsairs off carriers doing 4 tours ejected during first tour was rescued and kept flying.
2/ a father of a boy in my class and two older daughters was shot down and died in North Vietnam in 1967.
3/ A father of another classmate was shot down over Hanoi in an A-4, same plane as John McCain around 1965-6 and was also in the Hanoi Hilton. He came home to a ticker tape parade and had a daughter he had never met.
Probably another dozen on my street fought at various times. That was just one street in old Goodwood in the mid 60's to mid 70's. My slice of it.
