Makes you wonder how our ancestors survived before modern firearms, pots to boil water, or a reliable way to start a fire.

These people barely survive 21 days in the wild. Really makes you respect the survival skills of primitive man.

It's hard to imagine trying to catch fish consistently without modern monofilament fishing line and hooks, or kill game without a modern bow or gun.

Crazy shite.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I could survive in the majority of those environments.

But frick the swamp and the mosquitoes episode.

Used to love watching that show.

The most difficult environment I have ever seen on it was Lousiana swamp. Two different episodes, both times seemed terrible. The problem wasnt trying to find food, plenty if snakes and what not. The problem was very little dry ground, water everywhere, the worst bugs and mosquitoes ever. I wouldn't make it 3 days.

Back in the day water did not have to be boiled and kids spent their whole growing up years learning to hunt, fish, and make fire.

I'd tap out the very first time a mosquito bit me on the dick...so, basically day one.

I watched an episode a few days ago where they put 4 past winners on a shark infested island for 14 days. 1 day of dick sunburn and sand fleas and I would've tapped out.

I’ve seen a few episodes of Naked and Afraid XL where they have a bigger group (but longer than 21 days). Seems like they dont struggle as much as just 2 people. Easier when you have more people to spread duties around to

So, you're going to a swamp, do you take a mosquito net or a machete?

I don’t know how those women don’t just have bugs crawling up their cooch all night. Do they wear a tampon or something?

Most of them did not survive. Or they were able to feed themselves (barely) and were killed by something random, often infection.

Average life span for humans was quite low for nearly all of history, most families lost more than one child fairly early as recently as the 1800's.

IMO, the biggest issue is the immediate "fish out of water" syndrome. Even cave men had rituals and habits enabling their daily life and survival. They weren't suddenly in an environment with no instincts on which to rely upon. They had a family unit to show them what to eat and how to survive. If you took a Neanderthal and threw him into a different landscape he'd probably be just as clueless.

That's why humanity started in select places around the world and civilizations slowly branched out when technology enabled them to.

Native Americans also moved a lot, I mean outside of select groups that learned how to live in generally nice temperate places most traveled with the weather and game to avoid extremities.

I've said it for years, take these Al-Queda terrorists to the swamp or marsh, strip them naked and tie them by the hands and feet spread eagle standing up to two posts and let them stay there overnight.

They would give up their mother to not experience another night of it.

Plus, in both episodes they couldn't find anything dry enough to make a fire.

Therefore no way to boil water, cook food, or keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Agreed. She was a lesbian but was obsessed with staring at his dick and they basically dry humped on camera every night. Only couple I've seen that didn't even attempt to make some sort of clothing.

They lived in more hospitable environments than many of the ones the show drops contestants into.
