Yep. No fire to boil water, so you're surrounded by water that you can't drink. Mosquitoes eating you alive because you've got no fire.

With proper long term planning though, you really shouldn't have an issue with wet firewood for more than 4-5 days. 10-14 days tops. Make yourself a roof for the wood, and let it dry out. Slightly wet wood is fine as it takes longer to burn and can make more smoke, perfect for the swamp actually.

Like said already, there's plenty of places that are a lot harder to survive being thrown in out of nowhere then trying to live there long term.

Long term a swamp would probably be better than say a desert. Short term though, absolutely the bugs is one of the worst parts about any survival show.

The bugs are an issue. Also. The bottom of your feet would have to be basically leather. I feel like just walking around barefoot in most of these environments would cause problems.

Just a few rolls of duct tape would go a long way. Tape some material to the soles of your feet and wrap your body to keep bugs off skin. I realize they don't have this on the show, but it's such a small thing we take for granted that could give a huge advantage in surviving this sort of shite.

shite, I’m one of those guys that always thinks of himself in situation that would never happen. I saw something today that was so smart. These guys crossing the border make these big rug flip flops to wear on the outside of their shoes. No tracks!

If I am ever doing some ops shite. The rug flops are coming out.

Have you ever lifted weights? Honest question, because your hands form calluses quickly. When I was a kid I never wore shoes, same thing.

21 days like these shows are is not enough time. But 6 months to a year, not a problem.

I said that to my wife also.

I'd make shoes out of something, anything.

Not long after I said this, the woman on the show found the carcass of an antelope and made some shoes from the hide.

But frick the swamp and the mosquitoes episode.

That one looked the worst. But all the damp jungles look awful too.

You talking about smearing mud all over your exposed skin to stop mosquitoes?

I've heard people say that. Fortunately, I've never had to prove it.

It’ll at least keep the predator from seeing you

I’ve seen a few episodes of Naked and Afraid XL where they have a bigger group (but longer than 21 days). Seems like they dont struggle as much as just 2 people. Easier when you have more people to spread duties around to

More contestants just means a larger film and sound crew and a bigger catering operation. Hint: it’s fake.

They stay at night in a Holiday Inn with the film crew. It's "reality" tv.

She doesn't talk much about it. She's very proud of the fact she was on the show but doesn't go into details, which I believe is part of the agreement they sign.

Makes sense.

Why are you up so early! It’s got to be 230 for you?
