Don't think the Speed Queen is less environmentally friendly if you factor in the redo's and restarts

I am still waiting for problems to start with the LG that we bought in 2006.

This. Never had a single problem with LG.

My lg he front loader is 5 years old and never had a problem. It uses less water and my clothes are always clean. In fact people rave about how good my clothes smell. Did you know there is a drain plug you have to drain once a week? Did you also know you have to level your machine off the ground properly?

About to replace our 22 year old Maytag (repairs becoming more frequent and more costly). Going with a top loading Maytag. Fingers crossed.

CR rates then very low based solely on water use.
And then rated the dryer low based on it over-drying, because they wanted to be able to iron damp clothes.
Talk about a fricking agenda

I'll never forget the first time I went home and tried to help my mom do her laundry after she got her first front loader. I still had an old machine. I had to be taught about spreading the clothes around the outside edge. She kept a towel in the washroom for drying that damn gasket after every wash and she never closed the door. I couldn't believe she had to do all of that maintenance on a "new" washing machine. I actually came here and found out from you about the Afresh. Went and got her some.
I think my bitching about all of it had an impact on her because she got rid of the second top loader she had had in about four years and bought a top loading machine. Screw modern technology when it makes your life more complicated.

Google video Speed Queen vs Maytag then tell me what you think. If you look at all the coin operated Duds and Suds laundry mats, they have Speed Queens! That alone along with all the positive reviews told me what we should buy.

We did not have a front load!

Never heard the once a week. You should clean the filter once a month. That is a huge plus, a lot of machines do not have a customer accessible filter and you have to call a tech out to clean it. I would never get a front loader that does not have an access door for the pump. A lot of things slip between the seal and the drum into the pump filter.
Electrolux/Frigidaire and The Duet Whirlpools had this problem really bad.
You literally have to take apart the whole machine to get to the pump, not a diy job at all. Meanwhile the LG and Samsung and some others have doors right to the pump.

Milnor is probably one of the top commercial brands, right from Kenner Brah.
They need to make residential units.

I would think smell would have more to do with fabric softener and dryer sheets. Clothes will be damp and soapy smelling coming from any washer, don't care if it's a dust bowl washbin, a 1908 Maytag, a 2016 Fisher/Paykel or an LG. They are going to smell like the detergent they are washed in.

I had an old school top loading may tag for years. Sold my condo and decided to leave it there when I moved and buy a new washing machine for my house.
I didn't do any research, I figured all machines were pretty similar as long as you go with a brand name. I also had no clue what HE was. I bought another may tag that happened to be an HE unit(I think this is all they sell these days) on sale at Home Depot, it gets delivered and I run a load and I'm like wtf is this. Load arse noises, not nearly enough water for a load, hour long cycle, and to make things worse my sheets weren't even clean. The associate that sold me the machine just told me that the machines without agitators are the new technology, and I figured new=better. Boy was I wrong, I wish I had my old school machine back.

We have had a speed queen for I don't know how many years. Best by a mile and about half the cost.

I do use downy so maybe thats it. My dryer doesn't require dryer sheets so I never use them.
