With the adult sons living out of state Mrs. Fat Man sends them and their families King Cakes. She now buys the KC, packages it herself and then ships it … a little more effort but she gets the right cake, it arrives in better condition and since we're shipping 4, it saves a few bucks on shipping.

Perhaps a friend or family member would do the same for you?

I order a dong phuong in November every year as soon as they start taking orders.

I get that this is a me problem but I’m not a huge fan of their cakes. The texture of it doesn’t really do it for me.

I picked up 3 back in January for $51 total from Oak Point to bring back.

Looked into getting one shipped for this weekend and they were all $60-$70

No shot in hell I'd pay that

Look player, I miss King Cakes too.

I live in Oregon.

Below is a quick as hell King Cake recipe for an eight inch cake that I’ve cooked many many times to perfection.

Taste is excellent. Easy to be home again.

I have had king cakes sent to me probably a dozen times when living outside of Louisiana and the cake more times than not arrives in the shape that you describe. Honestly, they are at the mercy of the carrier and when your cake travels for a week in the back of an 18-wheeler, you can’t expect too much…If I remember right, gambino’s are a little more robust cake and arrive a little better. None of them are in good shape when they arrive, regardless.

This year I bought randozzo’s from my local Kroger and it is stellar!

My dad sent me one from Meche’s in Lafayette. It’s delicious.

It’s a crapshoot as to how they turn out with shipping. One year the icing had melted in the package into one blob of grey.

You quit and moved out of LA. You don’t get king cake.

I grew up on the McKenzie’s king cakes.

That icing they put on their king cakes was the top tier diabetes inducing stuff. Great flavor.

I think Tastee has their recipes now, but I doubt they could get the same ingredients from the 1970s and 80s.

I ordered a couple of king cakes from Gambino's last week and I'm disappointed in them. Since when do you have to put the icing and sugar on yourself?

I can't sympathize with you, sir, because I hate Mardi Gras and I know that King Cake is a worthless sugar and carb Bomb.

Places should just sell king cakes all year. It doesn’t make since why you wouldn’t. Get the money.

I get homesick as well.

It’s always Mardi Gras, start of football season, peak crawfish season, end of baseball season, and jazz fest

Next time order from Marguerites in Slidell. Roughly $50 gets you a regular size king cake and the price includes shipping. I send a fruit/cream cheese every year and have had no issues. It’s my favorite, and better than Randazzos and the other hyped places, to me.

They need to start shipping the king cake in bubble wrap.
