A worker at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo was attacked by a warthog while completing her daily rounds Tuesday.
According to city officials, the worker, a 23-year-old female, is recovering at an area hospital.
Zoo Director Joe Clawson said the keeper was completing the morning routine at the zoo when the incident happened.
The exact events leading up to the attack and the nature of the attack are unclear as of 2:35 p.m. as zoo officials have not yet discussed the incident with the worker.
Clawson said the employee was able to remove herself from the warthog's area and climb into a vehicle in an effort to obtain assistance.
She was in the vehicle when zoo personnel contacted Acadian Ambulance and requested a transport for the employee.
The events leading up to the interaction will be reviewed by zoo officials.
