An Alabama man who said he tripped and broke his hip while buying a watermelon at a Walmart store has won a $7.5 million verdict in his lawsuit against the retailer.

quote:

Court records show that Henry Walker on Wednesday was awarded the damages after a jury trial in Phenix City, Alabama ( closer to Auburn, not Tuscaloosa, I want to add).

Walmart spokesman Randy Hargrove said Thursday the company believes the damages were excessive, and plans to appeal.

quote:

Walker had sued Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in 2015, saying his foot became trapped in a pallet beneath the watermelons as he reached for one.

In a Wednesday court filing, the company said the display wasn't dangerous.

Charles Gower, one of Walker's attorneys, tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that Walmart should have covered the pallet so it couldn't entangle a shopper's foot.

This same prick will complain about the exorbitant price on his hospital Bill, when this one of the largest reasons why it is that high.

This shite right here is why people sue at the drop of a hat.

12 random people don't give a shite about taking a few million from someone or a company that doesn't affect them in the slightest.

"Pain and suffering" is such bullshite most of the time. And it isn't worth $8M. Wal mart should've been responsible for medical expenses, legal fees and maybe a little extra on the side. Give me a break.

On the face of it, it does seem pretty absurd, but I have to think that there are some details that make this seem a little more understandable.

Puntitive damages isn't "pain and suffering." It's a penalty to give the defendant enough financial incentive not to frick up again.

My former co-worker's wife sued Walmart when she slipped on a spill and broke her hip, but she didn't get near the amount this guy got.

If they awarded $5million in punitives, there is an extremely high likelihood walmart engaged in some shady tactics.

They got hit for $2 million here a couple of years ago on a slip and fall because the manager tried to destroy the surveillance video. The video showed water leaking from the roof but walmart denied the leak. Walmart tried to hide the video and say it was accidentally destroyed but the plaintiff attorney was able to obtain a copy and the jury buttfricked walmart in that case. Shady fricks

Yeah, I have noticed a pattern in all of these cases that get touted as "frivolous lawsuits" to the public that returned a high judgment. There are always some details left out of the story that make the defendant look really bad. Does it take a genius to see why these big multi-billion dollar corporations would push a certain public narrative? I hope not.
