Good.....maybe now people can get a correct answer to a question when shopping

Wal-Mart said frick that $15 minimum wage.

Wal-Mart is already making you do your own work for lower prices. The Elmwood location now has 80% self-serve checkout lines making you scan and bag your own shite.

A few thoughts:
1. This is what happens when unskilled workers try to form some rag-tag union and demand artificially high wages. Reality hits you in the face and you realize a robot can easily replace you.
2. I'd love to be a lawyer for Wal Mart. They will quickly be inundated with claims/lawsuit of customers "getting hit" by these things, or slipping, or all sorts of injuries. It will be a free for all because the "tortfeasor" can't really testify against the plaintiff.

Anybody who doesnt think this is good for the economy on the whole needs to read more about economics.
Also weavers rioted and destroyed looms in the 1600s because they would "take jobs"....except they didnt destroy jobs....they increased production so extremely that the amount of people employed in the weaving industry increased like 400X.
Anything that increases production will raise real wages.

Your honor. We intend to prove that these robots were intentionally programmed and "trained" to attack [insert minority group here] and will be seeking punitive damages.

If this frees up people to stock the shelves or work a goddamn register, I’m OK with it.

How's that weaving industry doing today though? My guess is its down about 4,000%.
Obviously we are just seeing the first iteration of all of these machines and they will improve. But the self check outs suck about half the time. They are much much slower than using a cashier for one, and most places have a 4 to 1 cashier to self check out ratio. More customers are actively involved and thus happy with their check out. But I don't think they save time, just the company money.
ETA: If you buy some beer, spray paint, etc. that needs a cashier to confirm ID and you forget about it until half way through your check out, good luck getting help half way through. I intentionally wait for cashiers most of the time now.

Good. Walmarts need a good cleaning. They're almost all nasty AF.

They're gonna use the extra money to upgrade the camera systems

Actually this is how the $15/hr minimum ware argument ends.

You would be wrong. But thats not even the point.
There are more jobs now than ever before...even with all of the advancements in technology.
Technology will NEVER be bad for the economy. Ever.

Who's job will it be to clean the robots? I am sure a few will get pissed on.

Wal-Mart's response "the ONE person we have looking at people do their own checkout, just can't possibly look at more than 4 registers at a time."

The more robots in Walmart, the better. If you’re looking for something, and you have the option of asking an employee or a robot, which one are you going to?
Posted on 12/3/18 at 10:48 am to Dr RC
I am actually okay with this.
Will the robots be trained to have an attitude when you approach one for help?
