BUT the church should have ponied up a tip and asked the manager to not fire the lady.

Why should they have ponied up a tip? They already said they didn't call to ask for her to be fired. I think I saw that this church orders from them weekly and it is usually delivered (which would definitely deserve a tip). That is a lot of regular business for a single branch. They sent a random volunteer to go pick it up because the delivery service was down. It is very possible that the volunteer thought tip may have already been factored into everything (this is not uncommon now with online ordering and other things).

If this is true, then your 20% lower for food makes no sense.

Whether or not there is a tip system, i will end up paying the same amount regardless, is what you claim. You're contradicting yourself, and you're wrong. If it costs me $50 to eat with my family with a tip system, it'll cost me $50 to eat with my family without a tip system. The restaurant isn't going to lose money retard.

For a takeout order of that size, the kitchen did about 90% of the work. They boxed all the food in to-go containers, and handed them off to an expo or the "take out waitress" to then place containers of food in bags.

It's not very hard to do, and probably didn't take up much of her day, yet she wants to be tipped on $735 when I seriously doubt they make a to-go waitress even tip out at the end of their shift.

She's the typical trash that felt entitled to what she hoped would be a large tip ($150) for doing nothing to earn that amount. She called out a church (probably a decent customer for this restaurant) and got fired for costing the Outback money in the refund and also embarrassing a customer publicly.

I'm sure she'll latch on to another chain restaurant, because in the end, what she doesn't isn't important.

glad you used the word courtesy. very appropriate and much appreciated

last time i checked, it was not illegal to be discourteous. in no way is one obligated to adhere to a courtesy. that is based on personal charity (or lack thereof).

You certainly should not follow the 20% norm on takeout orders but $700 is a big order that did take a lot to put together so a few bucks would be justified.

No you aren’t the same as a normal server. You don’t put up with righteous assholes, kids spilling crap everywhere and having to be “happy” the whole time.

Don't tell me this bullshite. There isn't a difference in the price for hamburger from Smashburger or from Chili's, and if there is, Chili's is more.

It's true whether you want to belive it or not. Food prices are reduced through a tip system.

This isn't a waiter that is handling to go orders.

Depends on the restaurant. A lot of times, it's bartenders who are on the tip system.

Or get a real job and don't complain how people with real jobs spend their money.

Again, many employees in the service industry are transitional. A lot of times, they're college students working a job while in school. Acting as if you're superior to them because you think you have a "real job," makes you look really, really pathetic considering most will outearn you in a decade.

Why? He's using a proven system where 90% of everyone - owner, servers, customers - win.

I am curious what recourse you think the business owner has to customers whom dont tip (like in this case)?

Or worse, who claim this customer who stiffed them on a big order is more worthwhile than the employee who served it?

If the employer had any sort of sense at all he wouldnt have refunded the money and institute a built in gratuity over a certain amount.

Or god forbid pay them like a normal employer.

Not in my experience. Sunday church crowd tipping poorly is a guarantee. The angry black women eating the plate then complaining it was cold and wanting a refund / no tip is an occasional thing.

Well, one is a consented-to, employment contract and the other was a violent oppression of freedom...

Obama changed IRS laws that have made a lot of places get rid of gratuity. Just food for thought

Except you have to account for irrational actors. If the menu says $10 one day for a meal and the next it's $12 because they get rid of the tip system, a lot of people aren't going to rationalize the value of the increased cost in the reduction of the tip. Hidden costs in microeconomics have that name for a reason. What you would see is a reduction in customer volume as a result which would absolutely hurt the owners bottom line.

so what is the problem here?

So you think because something is priced at $10 with a $2 hidden fee, that changing it to $12 without a hidden fee will change the economics?

Europeans are also living in a socialist democracy with Universal healthcare and other welfare benefits that makes their attitude towards tipping what it is.

Gauranteed if he had to pay for healthcare and unsubsidized rent, he would've kept that money.
