Dirty secret - almost none of you (and especially the blowhards on the whiskey thread on the food and drink board) could even come close to passing any blind taste test of bourbon (or any other hard spirit).
Just in the small group of 4 people I know and drink with from the whiskey thread, you're laughably wrong

Can you tell them that the aluminum wrap on the cap will slice your finger off.

Congrats you linked an article, I work for the distributor and represented Sazerac directly. They’re suing to sue to try to cover their losses from the Fireball lawsuit.
Good for you. I’ve got good friends in similar positions. Fireball is just part of it and i’m sure you’re aware of that

Bourbon version of wine snobs? I think you're right to a point, but among the 30 to 50 dollar a bottle, you probably could not.

Sorry, hit submit too early. That was part of a question. My bad.

Find you a bottle Eagle Rare. Same price
I have a honey hole in GA near my parents house that usually has as much ER as you can carry. I try to hook up when I visit them.
Also, there’s a liquor store outside ATL attached to a gas station in the hood that normally is 3 or 4 deep with WSR. I grab a couple and get in line with the locals buying Hennessy and Fireball.

Depends on the bottles. When we blind things, it's typically similar proofs, styles, etc.
But wild turkey products and buffalo trace products for example are pretty easy to tell apart.

I hear that and makes sense.

I keep a bottle of Eagle Rare and some other high dollar small batches around. I refill them with a middling grade and nobody knows the difference.
All whiskey tastes like booze.
Pappy, Blantons…all of it…booze.

If serious that is terrible and Id question the kind of friend you are to fake the bourbon you share.

Buffalo Trace sent out their infamous letter about going to allocation in like 2013. They increased output significantly since, Built a ton of new warehouses, just opened a new still house, yet the stuff is more scarce now more than ever. They also added new Weller products. Barrel programs for EHT and Stagg Jr lines. I don’t think they have any intention of meeting demand. They will just keep adding new products and keep scarcity high. They keep hyping an already overhyped product.

I am pretty sure it was around $24/bottle for the Eagle Rare back then but it was so long ago I put sub $30 so the zealots would not persecute me if I was off by a dollar

10 years ago I was buying eagle rare or buffalo trace at the grocery store regularly for sub $30 a bottle.
You can still do that. And that price is for a 1.75 mL bottle.

I don't remember the price but we saw buffalo trace at the liquor store in Colorado this weekend. My husband usually drinks Breckenridge or Stranahan when we are here.
I got a bottle of eagle rare about a year ago at Oak Point in Watson because I happened to be at the grocery store when some guys were getting it. 2 bottle limit and there was 1 bottle left in the case the manager had. I asked and was able to purchase it. Was normal price. Maybe 30-32 bucks if iirc.

Its overpriced bourbon, he's not substituting dog meat for hamburger. My guess, no one ever knows the difference.

Eagle rare isn’t over priced though. It’s still like $35 retail for a 10 year bourbon when you can find it
