VWs have horrible reliability ratings on consumer reports typically 15 Passat is a worse than average reliability for that class but is one of the better Passats, it seems most of the issues are fuel system related.
Predicted reliability for the 2017 Jetta is much worse than average. There won't be survey info from owners until next year on the 2017s. 20016s and older generally have much worse reliability for their class.
Hope that helps.

I miss my Hyundai Santa Fe. I didn't realize how much better AWD feels to me until I didn't have it.
Still pissed that girl rammed me on the interstate. I would have driven that car forever.

Just bought a 2017 genesis g80 and absolutely love it. Best luxury car under 40k. More features than you can imagine and it is quieter than Lexus.

The Genesis is amazing. I just got a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. I love it. Someone mentioned the headlights... yea it took me a pretty long time to get to mine, but I did. Put in LED's bc for some reason it comes stock with Halogens right above the LED running light strip. I got the leather seats and the technology package. Way better than the other cars I test drove. You'll love the Hyundai.

Hyundai's is absurd, but then you'd have to drive a Hyundai
My Dad didn't risk his life in Korea so his son could drive a Korean car.

I used to drive a VW tdi before the buyback; finally got that settled about 2 weeks ago. I'm pretty negative towards them overall for the way they treated us during the buy back process but even before that my car was always in the shop for something ridiculous. Had to replace the fuel injectors and the turbo. And the hose to the turbo started to leak and the AC compressor was failing just before the buy back started. I'll never buy another VW for the rest of my life.
That being said I bet they are practically giving those cars away right now so if the price is right it might be worth it

How do VWs compare to Hyundais and Hondas?
One of these are not like the other two.

There are some nice Hyundais out there, with leather and SiriusXM, which is my only requirement.
The new Genesis is supposed to be really nice. So much so that I believe I read Hyundai is thinking about spinning it off into its own marque.
If you get a Jetta go for the Sportwagon. It's way more convenient than a typical car w/a trunk.
The Hondas will likely last longest but you can probably get a sweet deal on a used Acura TLX which should be quite a bit nicer than the Accord.

Agreed. VW makes shitty cars.Hyundai I have no clue. Get a Honda, Toyota or an Acura. They're well made and hold their value well.

VWs have a pretty recent history of poor manufacturing, Hyundai has a 100k power train warranty, so the clear answer is HONDA

You can get some incredible deals on new Hyundai Sonatas with everything you're looking for. Would be worth the test drive.

I have a Hyundai Sonatta. 60k miles and the only thing I have had to do for the car was changes the breaks.

My mechanic (who worked on man NHRA funny stock car team for 17 years) told me the best vehicles to get are Toyota, Honda, and Subaru.
He told me one time, if I bring in a VW, he would tell me to leave his garage. He said VWs are not a good car.

Subaru, Hyundai, or Kia

The Hyundai Genesis is already just the Genesis with different models. Dropped the Hyundai from the name and no longer has the symbol.

Wife drives a VW TDI Jetta Sportwagen. I'll never own another VW. As others have said, all kinds of nagging mechanical problems. A/C problems at 3 years old, trunk latch, sunroof shade have all failed. The car has driven nicely, but the only reason I haven't gotten rid of it yet is because it's paid off and nice not having a car note.

I don't know which is more reliable, but I'd guess the low horse-powered, less innovative Asian cars.
I know for certain the German options are more fun to drive. They also handle better and have more innovations. Easy choice for me.
