VMI tuition is 14k/semester
Citadel is $20K
West Point is better and is Free... I made a joke earlier but the choice is clear which one to take
VMI would be a good backup plan but honestly any college ROTC program would do just as well.

West Point. Even if the kid is an idiot, he'll still become top brass by the time his career is over.
But VMI is where J.E.B. Stuart went to school, so he'd have that going for him.

Naval Academy is the actual answer. Study engineering. Make mega bucks later in the private sector.

Never underestimate the power of the Ring Knockers. I've seen that power at work too many times. It is amazing.

You do not turn down USMA if you are given the opportunity. However, the Citadel and VMI (and A&M and Georgia Military College) are great commissioning sources as well.

I think at Citadel they are just pretending to be in the military.

The other two are not anywhere in the same class as West Point.
I think VMI is considered a decent school, however.
I've heard the Citadel is basically a school for frickups to try to get straight.

West Point is the obvious answer.
VMI is a fine school.
You've heard wrong with regard to The Citadel though. You couldn't be anymore wrong that what you just exhibited in your post.
Wow, I mean I've seen dumbassery before on the OT, but that one might take the cake.

Lot of Citadel knights here. I heard what I heard from someone from Charleston, by the way. I don't know if he had an axe to grind or not, and I wasn't claiming personal authority on the subject - just saying what he told me.
He's a C. of Charleston alum if that matters.

West Point. I have a student I work with in a similar situation. He's visiting the Citadel this month but I believe he's pretty well set on VMI as his second choice (has a full ride there). But if West Point accepts that's his #1.

West Point but the process is a little more involved than sending in your application and test scores.

For the Army, WP is the gold standard.

James Ewell Brown Stuart was a 1854 graduate of the USMA.

Eschew them all. Go with the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M.

From what I understand AFA is the most difficult appointment. I've been to New London often and I can't come anywhere near verifying the hot chick claim at the uscga.
My top 3 would be
AFA
Navy
USCGA

West Point, and it's not even a question. It is, however, much harder to get into West Point than the other two. If he's picking between the other two, it comes down to what he enjoys; Lexington is gorgeous little town in the Shenandoah, but Charleston is probably the best coastal city in the US.
