Everyone has their own way to make a gumbo, but Louisianians seem to be united by what is the wrong way.

Disney posted a video to several of their Facebook pages yesterday, touting a recipe for the "best gumbo in the bayou" that featured a few non-traditional ingredients, like kale and quinoa.

As often happens on social media, judgment came quickly:

"I stopped paying attention when they didn't start with a roux."

"The entire population of Louisiana rejects this concoction! If you cook and serve this we respectfully ask that our state or the word "gumbo" not be used during the presentation."

"Kale... in gumbo? Also where's the sausage and the roux and pretty much everything in real gumbo?"

"I have seldom seen Cajuns unite in pure disgust over a recipe. We are #GumboStrong."

"That's a bowl of lies and deceit. Everyone from Louisiana is offended."

I saw a video where about every 3 seconds, someone was yelling no when they put in the ingredients.

Looks like Disney removed it.

Isn't this seaweed? Who wants seaweed in gumbo?

quinoa
Sounds like a Mexican party

I ate a chicken and sausage gumbo last week, and there was no seaweed in it and I didn't see any Mexicans dancing around

IT ISN'T frickING GUMBO!!!

It's not a "type" of gumbo. At all. In any way, shape or form.

I would sooner drown someone in hot roux than defile my kitchen with this.

When I was in HS, I dated this girl from California. Her dad made his version of gumbo that was just a bunch of vegetables with water and some of that garbage crab meat. He made a huge pot, and I had to end up telling him it was disgusting in front of his wife and daughter.

Some things don't need to be fricked with, and gumbo is one of those things

In a small defense of the kale, gumbo z'herbes exists and typically has some mixed greens in it. Kale would work just fine in it.

But quinoa? Who the frick would ever put quinoa in a gumbo?
