Not only that, but it undermined our position. Communism is a shite economic system that will inevitably fail. Just leave it the frick alone. If you have to bomb a country to "save them from communism", it makes you look like you're actually afraid communism will be successful.

Watched one documentary that showed written proof of letters from Ho Chi Minh that pleaded for peace. He did not want war or even much to do with Communism and did not plan to follow Soviet Russia into a communist state. Somehow that was hidden from public til long after the war ended.

There are a lot of defenses for it. And there are a lot of arguments against it. It's not a yes or no easy question.

When they stopped the air bombing campaign for no fricking reason other than to put more troops on the ground and make the war last longer to make more money they lost any credible defense for the war.

Interviewed years later an NVA general stated he couldn't believe they stopped bombing. They were within days of surrendering and inexplicably just stopped.

Huge mistake. Many young men were sacrificed in a war that gained nothing.

Yes, Ho Chi Minh was a real peacenik.

Say what you will about the war, but this HCM was basically a saint bullshite is some western media propaganda of the highest order. There's a reason the refugees all moved south and were cramming on helicopters and boats in '75 and it wasn't bc HCM was the second coming of Ghandi.

Capitalism would won the day anyways. If people who claim to hate communism actually believed that, there was no reason to put boots on the ground. This applies to any foreign war America has fought, including the one occurring right now.

Was it a mistake? Probably, but it’s open for debate. What’s not debatable is the soldiers that went over there, REMF or not, did not deserve to be treated like pariahs. What’s also not debatable is that had any of the Presidents involved in the decision not to cross the 38th parallel, or enter into Laos or Cambodia, had a pair we would have ended it victoriously.

Mistake. We did learn a lot from a military standpoint, but this war was a political loss and it screwed up the lives of a lot of young Americans, while killing nearly 60,000 others.

1965-1975 was ridiculous

Well unless China jumped in like in Korea. Which is why this topic is much more complicated and nuanced than many wish it was.
