You're a fricking moron. The last few seats are where an airline makes every cent of it's profit.
So tell me, what do you think of businesses that sell services it knows it can't provide to it's customers?

Or cough up enough credit for passengers to volunteer to take another flight when these issues arise (and they do sometimes).
Overbook should never result in injury or forced removal of a paid, seated passenger.

Instead of screwing over their passengers perhaps they need to rework their crew placement and flight schedules if they can't do it feasibly.
They operate on razor thin margins as it is...and I'd wager that this crew replacement situation was due to weather.

WTF, I'm pretty far conservative but that video is ridiculously bad business decision if what was said is true?
A voucher costs the airline very very little. If they truly oversold, they should of kept upping the Voucher until they got 4. Even at $10,000 in vouchers that probably costs the airlines maybe $1000 when they make more than that almost every flight in oversold tickets.
If that guy is a doctor, I don't blame him. What doctor would get off a flight for $800 if he truly needed to go somewhere? Not to mention, dudes about to sue them and win a lot of money for one he's minority it looks like and he can easily sell the media on bias.
United is a bunch of idiots here. Worst case scenario, they get a leer jet down there and pick people up. That's like $10,000. Kicking a passenger off a plane for not doing anything wrong is not worth that money.

It happens all the time. Airlines, Rental Cars, Hotels, Doctor's Offices, Restaurants, Theme Parks, etc.

So tough shite.
This whole scheme is nothing but a fancy bait and switch.

I'll never understand the folks who dress in business wear to fly.
If I could fly naked, I would. Since I can't, I dress as comfortably as possible (Sweats, T-Shirt). I change in to business wear when I arrive at my destination.

The average net margin for an airline is 2.4%. Less than $6 per passenger.
they would make more if they charge by the pound and eliminate free drinks and peanuts.

Exactly. It's so much cheaper to just cough up enough in credit or vouchers to get a volunteer.
This video makes United look terrible. And from what I hear from their frequent fliers, they have gone downhill since Continetal.

They should have selected the 4 before they even got on the plane. This is bullshite.

So what's your solution when even the airline that doesn't overbook ends up in this situation?

You typically don't prepay for rental cars, hotels, doctor's offices, or restaurants.
Perhaps that's the solution here. The airline should get your money once they provide you with the service you purchased.

How can anyone here justify a business selling services it knows it can't fulfill?
They are not doing this. They are predicting they *will* be able to fulfill it and fully expect that is what will happen. However, occasionally they're wrong and that is why the contract clearly states how that will be handled.
No, lots of people don't read the contract but you're bound by it regardless. Otherwise everyone would say "Oh, I didn't read that" when they find it convenient to do so.

More than likely they didn't get notified from ops that this crew needed to get on the plane until people had boarded. It reads of a very last minute move based on a crew time-out situation due to weather.

I bet you never get Harriett's number at the Mexican restaurant.

If nothing else, the airline should only be able to take your money after providing you with a service. As it stands now they can double dip by selling phantom tickets.

So in one breath you tell me it doesn't happen, then the next that it happens occasionally?

If you're single it's a good idea. Trust me.

Your reading comprehension needs work.

Cancel the following flight from Louisville. "Sorry we fricked up with our logistics. Hopefully we get better."
