A reminder that this failed test was like 5 years ago but the video is just now getting out
The vehicle that is now Starship would launch, reach like 10,000 feet if I remember correctly, hover, then come back down & try the flip & burn landing maneuver
If I remember correctly... this test was done on a very foggy day so no cameras on the ground could see what was happening up above... only the flash when the vehicle exploded at landing burn start up & a rain of debris coming down

This is all I could think of watching that:
quote:
NASA One (flight control): "It looks good at NASA One."
B-52 Pilot: "Roger. BCS Arm switch is on."
NASA One: "Okay, Victor."
B-52 Pilot: "Lighting Rocket Arm switch is on."
B-52 Pilot: "Here comes the throttle. Circuit breakers in."
Steve Austin (voice of Lee Majors): "We have separation."
Chase plane: "Roger."
B-52 Pilot: "Inboard and outboards are on."
B-52 Pilot: "I'm coming forward with the sidestick"
NASA One: "Looks good."
B-52 Pilot: "Ah, Roger."
Steve Austin: "I've got a blow-out - damper three!"
Chase plane: "Get your pitch to zero."
Steve Austin: "Pitch is out! I can't hold altitude!"
B-52 Pilot: "Correction, Alpha Hold is off, turn selectors ? Emergency!"
Steve Austin: "Flight Com! I can't hold it! She's breaking up, she's break?"
Oscar Goldman: Steve Austin, astronaut: a man barely alive
Gentlemen we can rebuild him
We have the technology
We have the capability to make the worlds first bionic man
Steve Austin will be that man
Better than he was before
Better, Stronger, Faster

Damn, how'd the camera not get destroyed?

Starship is the size of a high rise building & the explosion happened down in the engine bay while the camera is mounted in the wing at the top of the vehicle

That it survived ground impact is remarkable.

Bet they learned a lot from that one

They probably recorded everything live at the mission control area... wouldn't have mattered if the camera survived

Still recording after impact and the wreckage stabilized.

Damn that flap cam is giving the blue shed a run for it's money.

Seen a lot of flap cam videos in my day, but that's the first with an actual spaceship.

Self-sealing gas tanks were invented during WW1.
