You think a tesla only gets 100 miles on a charge?

That's dumb.

I exaggerated, maybe.

Suppose everyone does hop in an electric car and evacuate north. They blow right through McComb and end up... where? Suppose the real range is 300 miles... where is this place full of hotel rooms and electric chargers 300 miles north of New Orleans or Biloxi? Jackson- and where else?

Think about Katrina, and add fights over lengthy access to a plug to that. You can pick nits, but this is far from figured out.

Well there's 7 supercharging stations between nola and Atlanta. To get to Atlanta you'd need a small charge so probably the nola based tesla owners will just drive to Birmingham or something and either stay there or charge up for 15 mins and head to Atlanta.

Add that to the fact that teslas use that fossil fuel derived electricity in a more efficient manner than ICE.

Tesla’s are ultimately less efficient than a gasoline or diesel powered car.

You have to look at the energy source, and the ensuing transmission losses.

Coal or gas power plants usually boast efficiencies somewhere in the mid thirties. That number drops when you factor in the transmission losses and the subsequent energy conversions.

Tesla’s are only efficient in that final phase.

Less than $50 a month in my electric bill as opposed to that amount every fill up. Low, low maintenance costs as well.

Tell us more about Tesla and their environmentally-friendly lithium-ion batteries and the equally environmentally-friendly way their rare-earth elements are harvested.

It always amazes me how people latch onto talking points and repeat them ad nauseam even when they no longer are truthful. Lithium extraction has become far more environmentally safe as major operations have ramped up brine extraction moving away from hard rock extraction. If you paid much attention you would be complaining about cobalt extraction instead, however, cobalt in the batteries is being reduced significantly and deep-sea nodule recovery is on the verge of making cobalt harvesting very environmentally friendly as well.

Cobalt was one of the elements in my chemistry set when I was 11. It was blue and powdery.

That's all I got.

The show your work numbers have been done over and over in EV threads and your non-math doesn't align.

I know Mississippi sucks but I'm pretty sure even they have electricity.

You think people don't fight over gas before/during/after hurricanes? Everyone rushes to fill up, stations run dry, and there is limited access for trucks to supply stations in evacuation zones.

100% false.
quote:

Line losses are in the 10-15% range, so efficiency there is 85+%. Charging efficiency is similar.
quote:

Coal or gas power plants usually boast efficiencies somewhere in the mid thirties.
OK, let's go with 35%. 0.35 (plant thermal efficiency) X 0.85 (line losses) X 0.85 (charging loss) X 0.85 (motor efficiency) = 21.5% total efficiency "well-to-wheel". This is about on par with a gasoline vehicle efficiency of about 20%, if we ignore the well-to-tank losses in fueling it up.

This is also worst case for an EV, assuming 100% of its energy comes from coal. The reality is in the US our energy mix is about 65% FF and the rest renewable and nuclear. This puts EVs very far ahead of ICEs in terms of FF efficiency.

You are either a liar, or you have been lied to.

I used to have a five-speed manual Mustang 5.0 convertible. One night a buddy and I did some ecstasy, bought four quarts of 10W40 from 7-11 and poured them out in Clearview Mall's back parking lot and did raging donuts, slides, swerves, fishtails, and all kinds of shenanigans for what seemed like a long time without getting caught or screwing up the car (other than being covered in oil, dirt, and pepples.) That parking lot was a mess for a good while after, though.

In my defense, I was just a punk kid of thirty-two at the time.
